draft @ redlight redlight. Spicy nose with sweet malts and hints of nutmeg. Pours blonde with a solid white head. Spicy and malty with great yeast flavors. Bready malt with some residual sweetness and spicy cinnamon and white pepper notes with a dry finish. Pretty good.
3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ryan82SM (755) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - DEC 25, 2010
Aroma of sweet mango, pineapple, caramel and confectionery sugar. Appearance is cloudy gold with white head; some sticky lacing left on the glass. Flavor matches the nose, but with a little honey sweetness, and a pine hop presence which was more apparent as the beer warmed. Mouthfeel was chewy and the alcohol was present in the finish. Palate is bubbly. The hop presence for me was too much for the style, but still a nice beer.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 rougeau13 (1067) - Texas, USA - DEC 9, 2010
Slightly hazy orange with a tiny white head. Aroma of apricots, banana and citrus and a little caramel malt and spices. Taste is sweet, quite fruity, and full. Body is full. Very good.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - DEC 6, 2010
Appearance: clear gold; pours sparkling and beautiful. White collar and a very thin film remain even after a smidge of swirling. No lace.
Nose: doughy and yeasty. Mandarin oranges with lots of moist mushy pith. Mango, pineapple, green bamboo, green bananas with a cornucopia of various tropical fruit skins. Tickle of heat in the back which mingles with very faint spice character. It’s all about the doughy yeasty breads and tropical fruit delights.
Palate: full and chewy in the middle with a still clean cut character. Palate focuses on the middle while her finish is lightly dry, bitter, and grassy. Lots of tartly sweet tropical fruits; pineapple, mandarin, mango, and of course some green bamboo. Skins in the middle. Coconut shavings minus the husk. Apple skins, cinnamon, and splintered wood are faint, flittering in and out of her tropical paradise. Lightly dries top of tongue.
Final Thoughts: a wee bit simple but at the same time, a wee bit complex. A ripe golden ale, she oozes tropical beaches and summer sunshine even though her style of origin is all Belgian. Once more a solid beer from the fine folks at Avery.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 NobleSquirrel (2579) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 2, 2010
Draft at Boiler Room. Pours an attractive and clear gold witha white head. Nose is very estery with far too much banana and bubblegum. Pils malt and somespicy phenols are present as well. On taste, the bubblegum dominates with a decent sweetness from the malt but an out of place caramel character. Far from the top for Avery. Come on, ma !
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JohnnyJ (2875) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 28, 2010
Bottle. Clear, moderately dark gold pour, white head. Sweet malt, banana, light apricot note, caramel, and some spice. Too sweet for me, I am not a big fan of strong belgian gold.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TronnyJenkins (20) - Texas, USA - NOV 25, 2010
Fruity, apple aroma. Definitely some detectable esters.
Bubbly mouthfeel, and present bitterness. Overall the flavor is really good, and while it isn’t my favorite Belgian Golden, it is pretty tasty.
The flavor does also have notes of cinnamon and nutmeg as mentioned before.
Finish is dry and fruity.
Bottle, aged 1 year.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 baggio (284) - norrtälje, SWEDEN - NOV 24, 2010
2007 Bottle
Apperance: Goldenish with a wee, white, head.
Aroma: Fruitjuice, Belgian yeast, Caramel.
Taste: Caramel, Fruitjuice, Butterscotch, Belgian yeast, Spices.
Palate: Very smooth and easy drink. Carbonation is low.
This beer has aged with grace and went down way too fast. Still, not as complex as i would have liked.
