COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The success of HOG HEAVEN and THE REVEREND clearly demonstrates that beer drinkers are willing to embrace "BIGGER" beers. In the fall of 2001, we decided that a lighter BIG BEER would complement its darker colored predecessors. Salvation has luscious apricot and peach aromas delicately interwoven with spicy suggestions of nutmeg and cinnamon. This heavenly soft, champagne-like elixir is cellarable for 3 years.

A: The pour is a dark and mildly hazed golden color with a fluffy white head. S: Quite a bit of spice esters such as all spice, clove, and nutmeg. Some mild pear and apple fruitiness along with a bit of citrus peel. Plenty of sweet sugar and caramel malts, too. T: More of a citrus presence on the flavor than I had expected. Still some sweet fruits like pears and bananas along with the spice notes. Caramel, candi sugar, and a bit of alcohol to round it out. M: The body is medium with a medium level of carbonation. As sweet as this beer is, luckily it’s not syrupy. D: A bit too sweet for me with a sort of half hearted spice character. A bit boozy, too.

On tap at the brewery in August 2009. Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate brown color with a thin tan head and almost no lacing. Nose brings candied sugar, caramel, dark fruits, hints of spice, and some booze. Taste is a bit of a mess with flavors in all directions and the malt and the yeast never really coming together, and then being overwhelmed by a big booziness. The feel brings a slight creaminess that is somewhat appetizing and is a boost over the nose. Drinkability is fairly poor. Definitely prefer the other end of the collaboration. Gold with a white head. Spice, hops, bitter, yeast, and light fruit on the nose. Nice on the palate, flavors are mostly bitter hops, backed by spice, yeast, and dried fruits.

22 oz bottle. Clear light orange color with a foamy white head that laced the glass. Smells of banana, nutmeg, alcohol, and dried fruits. Sweet, vinous, and effervescent. Flavor follows the aroma with the addition of yeasty bread dough and a sprinkle of black pepper. Only detractor is a slight metallic note at the end.

Shared bottle at RBNAG-11. Hazed honey colored body, under a ring of white bubbles. Fresh yeasty and fruity aroma with some fine spice notes. Fairly light-bodied. Gently sweet, caramelly malt flavor. Some fine fruit tones, and a fair amount of spices underneth. Soft sparkling carbonation. Spiced, fruity endnotes. Drinks good, feels very light for such a big beer.

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011. Why are always the best beers served near the end of the tasting? Golden to amber colour, this is a Belgian-style golden strong ale, with lovely spicy and fruity notes in both aroma and flavour. Well balanced and not too sweet. Very good.

Deep honey golden color was quite enticing. Rich citrus and honey aroma, with sweet golden malts. Very fruity. Slightly oxidized, I think, but flavors of honey, tingly, piney, citrus hops. Has big sweetness but is well balanced, with alcohol and a bit of tartness. Smooth and full, yet rather crisp. One of the more successful American made Belgian styles I’ve tried lately.

Hazy dark orange color with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops and some faint tea. Sweet citrus hops flavor, some spice, and a caramel end.
