Crushed with Jakebra. Aight, golden ale? This in’t a golden. Almost barley wine tendencies. Very very sweet nose and the alcohol is apparent from the beginning. Very interesting brew, with some good and bad tendencies.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - DEC 6, 2010
Appearance: clear gold; pours sparkling and beautiful. White collar and a very thin film remain even after a smidge of swirling. No lace.
Nose: doughy and yeasty. Mandarin oranges with lots of moist mushy pith. Mango, pineapple, green bamboo, green bananas with a cornucopia of various tropical fruit skins. Tickle of heat in the back which mingles with very faint spice character. It’s all about the doughy yeasty breads and tropical fruit delights.
Palate: full and chewy in the middle with a still clean cut character. Palate focuses on the middle while her finish is lightly dry, bitter, and grassy. Lots of tartly sweet tropical fruits; pineapple, mandarin, mango, and of course some green bamboo. Skins in the middle. Coconut shavings minus the husk. Apple skins, cinnamon, and splintered wood are faint, flittering in and out of her tropical paradise. Lightly dries top of tongue.
Final Thoughts: a wee bit simple but at the same time, a wee bit complex. A ripe golden ale, she oozes tropical beaches and summer sunshine even though her style of origin is all Belgian. Once more a solid beer from the fine folks at Avery.

A pale straw gold color attached to a thinly sized layer of head. The nose is both spicey and fruity with a apricot like aroma. First sip caught me off guard and had my face going sour even though its not a sour beer. It’s an interesting flavor made up of what i would think is a domestic form of yeast, sweet malt, and bitter hops. There is a little reminder of the spice from the aroma given off in the drink, but it’s lurking deep behind the unripe apricot.

A Golden haze settles above the light morning dew. . . The aroma of fresh flowers lifts my senses until I am resting on a feathery cloud . . . Subtle spices, yeast, and bread are all present. . . this cloud is soft and delightful. . . gathering my senses I float back to Earth, where several hop vines await me. Another tripel dream, how wonderful.

I was little afraid of this one because you know it’s gonna be boozy, it’s just a matter of how boozy it’ll be. mds said the bottle was at least a year old so that’s was a decent sign. Golden in color, slight haze, firm white head, lots of lace. Fruity aroma, some Belgian yeastiness, light spice. Yeasty flavor, fruity again, very light alcohol. Fuller bodied, ther alcohol was hardly detectable. Oh my goodness, a big beer by Avery that didn’t taste like fire water! It was pretty good, too.
