4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 p1meatloaf (208) - California, USA - SEP 19, 2011
22oz bomber bought in Boulder and opened into pint glass in San Diego. Looks clear and yellow with slightly off white soapy head with loks of carbonation bubbling. Smells like a a very pale malt belgian with lots of piney hops. Tastes at first like pale golden smooth malts then a decently heavy bitterness on the back of my palate. The funk of the belgian yeast comes out later in the middle of the gulp. overall 8.5 of 10

Clean light hop aroma with a bit of bite that indicates this is a heavy bodied beer. Beautiful golden color with light carbonation. Taste is full, sweet, silky and some of that good Belgian yeasty funk. So smooth and clean, the alcohol is fairly hidden. A wonderful, wonderful beer. The description mentions The Reverend from Avery, which I have also had and loved. This might even beat that one. Probably up with Don de Dieu for one of my favorite Belgian Golden Ales at this point. Awesome.

Slight hint of alcohol in the aroma. Nice full body, good balance. Quite a good golden strong ale. Now I just need to remember who sent it to me.

650 ml. Orange-gold with a five finger head that leaves some beautiful frost on the glass. Peach-citrus and honey aroma. Flavor is similar, but more balanced on the front (less sweet) than most Belgians, then seems to have a surge of some bubblegum and fruit in the middle. A nice flourish of bittering hops at the end that blend well with the hidden alcohol and light fruit. Nearly medium body is smooth, finishes dry and pleasantly chest warming. A typically malty, Belgian-yeasty style beer, but it seems to have a tad more hops than most in the style and I like it.
