Commercial Description:
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate. This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

ruby grapefruit colored murky pour with a few white bubbles. Sea water, fishy, sweet caramel aroma. Sweet licorice, piney, alcohol mess. By far the worst Avery I’ve had.

Pours reddish with a sweet, bourbon, oak, vanilla nose. Flavor is very sweet with lots of fruits, butterscotch, caramel, smokiness like a whiskey, and lots of alcohol in the finish. Light carbonation and a mouthfeel almost like a spirit.

Crushed with Jakebra. Sweet, sweet nose. The barrel definitely shows through. Sweet on the tongue as well, but the finish is unexpected and awesome and something and something. Lots of alcohol. Overall, I’m a little frightened,

Sampled at EBF08. Deep amber with yeast particles. Sweet and malty aroma with clear oak-notes. Loads of sweet, tropical fruits in the flavour.

12 oz bottle that I purchased six months ago and paid an arm and a leg for (well, not really but $7 is a lot to me for one beer). The color is a really nice cloudy orange with a small 2 cm off-white head. The smell is of hi-octane alcohol and not much else; as Papa Burgundy would say “stings the nostrils”. The taste is very close to whiskey with a little sweetness. This is not quite as bad as Mephistopheles but it isn’t great. This really isn’t a beer to me but more an after-dinner liqueur like a cognac or bourbon. This is way too big for me and not recommended unless you like liquor-beers. The only reason I cracked this was because I spent four hours in traffic due to a blizzard and my belly needed warming. This beer is good for that. Reddish copper in color with a medium sized off-white head that vanishes. Aroma is of raisins, strong alcohol, molasses, brown sugar and oak. Flavor is the same with caramel, toffee and a strong alcohol warmth.

Bottle SB&WF-08 - Clear dark reddish amber colored beer with a thin orange beige head. Caramel dominates the aroma and blends real well with hints of coconuts, port, oak wood, dark berries and spices. Flavor is very sweet and caramel like with strong vinous notes and spices. Hints of vanilla and oak is also found here. Very full bodied and highly drinkable. A must!
