Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 2, 2008 2005 vintage -- A muddy brown appearance, probably due to yeast sediment, with a light ivory head. Aroma is great, malty sweetness, with some nice peat accents. Taste is amazing, sweet dark fruits, heavy malting with a nice oak-aged ending in which again the dark fruits show prominence. Ending is sweet and smooth, very enjoyable. If you’ve got a 2005 bottle still sitting around, DRINK IT NOW!. =) MiP (8792), Sønderborg, Denmark Feb 29, 2008 Bottle, 14.5%. Fat vanilla aroma, cigarbox all the way up to fat coconut. Cloudy red copper colour. Very small white head. Distinct coconut flavour, very sweet, malty and sugary. Alcohol nose burn. Very thick mouthfeel, syrupy. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Feb 24, 2008 Dark amber with medium head. Sweet fruity aroma with vinous, ripe fruit and caramel notes. Sweet spicy flavor with overripe fruit, oak and caramel notes. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Feb 17, 2008 Pours rich red-orange color with sugary hues immediately wafting from the glass. The body looks innocent but one whiff lets you know danger lurks inside. Even the smells try to act coy: baby-food sweet simplicity, heavily sweetened desserts. Alcohol. The malt comes out instantly in the mouth, adding some maturity to the beer. Although it burns going down the throat, the initial malt complexity is enough to compel another sip--but slowly. I’m also not picking up the oak and am searching for more complexity but there is something sweet and friendly about this barley wine. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 12, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with a little off-white to tan head. Dried fruity berry aroma, light wineous, light vanilla. Flavour is dried and cellared wineous with a very solid berry fruity note. Dried fruity with a hint of wood and vanilla. Solid wineous and woody finish. Ends vanilla smooth woody. beerheart (237), Erie, Colorado, USA Feb 8, 2008 this beer is different from any barleywine I’ve ever tried in that it is less stout and far more malty, in particular caramel malts. It has a very complex flavor. It leans toward being a Belgium trippel or quadruppel but with an extra caramel-brown sugar syruppyness that ultimately makes it unique. GMCC2181 (844), Bear, Delaware, USA Feb 2, 2008 Bottle. poured a dark red/amber color. Small head which disappeared quickly. Smells like a strong beer. Smelled an oak, vanilla flavor. Taste is super sweet. You can taste the oak, vanilla and small amount of hops. Like any barley wine it leaves that sweet sugary taste in your mouth. Over all it is a good barley wine. Worth the money, give it a try.
