Commercial Description:
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate. This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Bottle. poured a dark red/amber color. Small head which disappeared quickly. Smells like a strong beer. Smelled an oak, vanilla flavor. Taste is super sweet. You can taste the oak, vanilla and small amount of hops. Like any barley wine it leaves that sweet sugary taste in your mouth. Over all it is a good barley wine. Worth the money, give it a try.

Hazy light brown color and now head formation. Aroma is woody, along with vanilla, and bourbon characters leading to a warm sugary note reminiscent of a pastry shop. Flavor is intensely sweet. Brown sugar, vanilla, and alcohol are noticeable up front followed by a thick cane sugar finish. A bit sticky all around and a warm alcohol sensation lingers in the mouth.

Lots of sweetness, oaky vanilla, warming alcohol. The alcohol strength shines through, not too pleasantly. Some sourness in there, but overall too sweet.

Dark amber color with lots of floating sediment. Aroma is oak like caramel sugars and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, syrupy ripe fruit, charred sugar, a bit of dry oak, roasted malt, and alcohol. Hops are mostly absent. Full bodied. Pretty standard barley wine.

12 oz 07’ bottle. Took this one down in the beer bong, just kidding. Poures a redish amber color. Smells pretty complex with notes of fruit caramel. extremely rich and full body beer. Alcohol is present, well it is 14.9%. Great barley wine, very weird though.

DAMN BOY! Crazy beer! Smells of vanilla and caramel, taste is very complex and leaves your palate with a nice hint of vanilla. For being a 10 dollar beer it was worth every penny!!

Pours a devilish shade of red with a quickly dissipating blond head and a couple of chunks of yeast idly floating in suspension. Very oak pronounced nose, strong caramel alcohol, and a slightly tart fruitiness. Comes on strong on the palate, with an initial whiskey smokiness that quickly progresses through a tobacco bite onwards to vanilla liqueur sweetness then into a cough syrup finish. Mouthfeel is pure syrupy, clinging to the palate for some while, and any bitterness in the finish seems more due to the alcohol than hops, although a faint herbal hop character can be detected. Slowly grows more daunting as you sip away...
