Its like a sweet, delicious cognac with absolutely no bitterness or off taste. It goes down so easy and is very strong. I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t like this and what I mean by that is that there is nothing challenging about it. And sometimes that’s just fine. Tyler*Durden (71), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2007 A dark iced-tea colour wiht a quickly dissipating head, this beer has a sweet aroma that also picks up the oak accents. Complex flavours with a very sweet taste with port and fruit accents; it verges on a little too syrupy. Taste the alcohol at the finish, but is not overpowering. A good sharing beer. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 1, 2007 This strong beer has a beautiful orange/copper color with a red hue. The head is small, but it leaves a nice lace. The aroma has notes of toffee, ripe fall fruits and a vinous sweetness. The mouthfeel is oily and the flavour is surprisingly sweet with notes of toffee, caramel, apricot, citrus and it has a vinous complexity. There is no trace of alcohol. My husband loves it, I think it’s a bit too sweet... 1914 theisti (1650), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 28, 2007 12 oz. Bottle, poured into a wine glass. Light copper pour with a smallish white head. Aroma of sweet honey and caramel, hint of the alcohol to come. Initial taste actually shocked me. The taste of this is closer to a schnapps than a beer. Once I adjusted my palate (what was left of it) I came around to understanding this one a bit more. Taste is syrupy honey and caramel, with a touch of flowers. Alcohol is present throughout, from start to finish. I did not pick up on much oak, but this was a May 06 batch. All I can say at the end of this one is, I am glad it wasn’t a bomber. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 21, 2007 12oz bottle pours copper in color with a short tan head that stays only briefly. Aromas of caramel matls, and lots of plums, figs and dates. Good oak flavor blends nicely with caramel malts, a good dose of dark fruits and some alcohol warmth at the finish... Palate is smooth and sweet almost sticky until that warm finish. I honestly think this would be a fantastic brew to age for a while.. bhensonb (4240), Woodland, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Hugh aroma of alcohol and malt. Clear ripe apricot color with absolutely no head. Full, oily mouthfeel. Smooth malt syrup. Alcohol is big in the middle. There’s stone fruit here, wood too. I’d assign cherry to the fruit. Vanilla is not all that pronounced. Really unique. You could serve this over vanilla or cherry ice cream for a neat parfait. I think there is hop in the finish, but the malt and alcohol are on top. Sensational stuff. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Bottle. pours a clear, dark copper color with no head. It LOOKS thick! Sweet malty aroma with tons of fruity notes. Thick and sweet with a smoky, woody oakiness that reminds me of a campfire. Very fruity with tons of melon and tropical fruit notes. Sweet bourbon finish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2007 Thank God I was able to split a small bottle of this with the crowd at the Coastal Wine Connection’s beer tasting. This destroys your olfactory senses with a big sugary caramel "pow" ... Powerfully sweet with a cooked fruit sweetness, just a light bitter or medicinal value, it’s incredibly smooth but with the power of a nuclear power plant. Bronze orange. This is the Eiswein of beer, almost a cognac. For sipping by the fire with a cigar. (#2673, 2/1/07)
