Commercial Description:
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate. This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Tap @ O’Brien’s. Deep amber pour. Strong whiskey aroma along with a bit of a roasted smokiness going on. Huge bourbon flavors. Somewhat sweet as well. An almost candy quality going on too. Powerful stuff.

Bottle and bottled on May 2006 Batch 2. Small ivory head that mostly diminished, poor lacing, visible carbonation, poured hazy and as it warmed up became transparent, and an orange brown hue. Nose was oak, vanilla, caramel, semi-sweet, malty, and alcohol. Ditto for the flavor. Very nice indeed! Mouthfeel was semi-tingly and a warm alcohol burning sensation. Medium body. Defiinitely a sipping beer. Worth a try!

Hazy amber beer with disappearing off-white head. Complex aroma showing both hops, oak and alcohol: Pineapple, and peach balanced by the oak and a good dose of sherry. Flavour is sweetwith some caramel and oak and clearly present alcohol. Aftertaste of brown sugar and wood.

[Bottle from Beermouth tasted with the hop-bros at Jess’ cosy inn.] What a bad surprise. The bottle should have been in the cellar for some more years. It was flat and boring, maybe a bottlefault.

Clear amber with large, creamy offwhite head. Hops, caramel, cane sugar and spice. To sweet for my taste, but good anyway. Needs’s to store for a year or two.

My third demons of ale series. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet malt, oak, and alcohol. Appearance is a clear brownish red with off-white head. Intensely sweet flavor of fruit, wood, apple, maple syrup, and some vanilla. Alcohol comes through but not that bad for the abv. Definitely a sipper.
