Commercial Description:
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate. This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Huge sweet/alcohol nose....this should be interesting! Wow! What an overpowering brew...big sugar rush upfront...followed by an intense, take-no-prisoners ABV in the backend. Wildly over the top on all levels...but that’s Avery, right?!? Needs to mellow out for about...???

Deep amber, with almost no head (even with an agressive pour). Rich aroma of fruit, flowers and alcohol. Sweet and heavy, with less alcohol in the taste than in the aroma.

Bottle. Pours hazy red-orange with lots of bubbles and a small off-white head. The aroma is peach, plum, and various other fruits, with hints of smoke and alcohol and dust. The flavor has a lot of caramel and fruit with some pine. The alcohol is evident. As it gets to room temperature, it gets very sweet... too sweet, really. Still not bad.

Bottle. Pours amber with a very thin beige head. Aroma is strong sweet malts, caramel, lots of oak, and alcohol. Flavor is oak, dark fruit, and sweet caramel with a strong warming sensation due to the alcohol. Almost feels like it’s melting in your mouth.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy, light redish amber witha small fleeting white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and brown sugar. Some plums, cinnimon and apple butter and a hint of maple. Some fuming alcohol is evident as well. Flavor is very sweet, almost syrupy. Carmel and brown sugar again. ABV is there, and a major player but I don’t think overpowering. In fact I would not have guess quite so high. Lacking real bitterness, and I suppose a bit unbalanced in that regard. Leaves a sweet sticky coating after the sip, similar to how the Mephistopheles does. Full, smooth pallete and soft carbonationAvery just likes to make these Huge beers. This is not bad. Glad I could share it though, thanks to BuckeyeBoy

very little head. alcohol and malt aromas dominate. extremely malty flavors. much too sweet. alcohol is not well balanced..too much alcohol flavor to enjoy the underlying flavors.
