Avery Samaels Oak-Aged Ale

Poured the color of honey with a dirty white head. Aroma is slightly sour, nutty, buttery, some white grapes, and sweet carmel malts. Flavor is ridiculously sweet at 1st. Has a sweet carmel to it then changes to a burning alcohol reminiscent of vodka. The ending is super sweet like a sugar cube. Pure sweet and pure garbage. If I wanted to eat sugar cubes strait I would save some cash.

2005 bottle. Poured a medium copper with a small, of-white head. Complex and layered aromas of apple juice, raisins, pumpernickle bread, honey butter, white vinegar, and alcohol. Flavor is both savory and heavily sweet, but never cloying. Lots of nice, mellow spice. Velvety and buttery. Exceptionally calm for its alcohol content. Except for the slow warm spot growing in my stomach, I wouldn’t guess it was so potent. Very sweet finish that lingers on the tip of your tongue. Intensely satisfying and unquestionably original. I’m surprised this is the lowest rated of the demon ales. I think it’s the best.

The aroma had dark fruit, spices, and was very sweet. The beer poured a brown color with golden orange hues, no head and very slight lacing. The flavor had caramel, dark fruits, spice, and was very sugary. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and creamy.

Avery sure no how to go BIG. Very sweet and oaky, with a big whiskey flavor. Almost too much of the woody/whiskey flavor, but good in small doses.

2005 bottle. Pours a crystaline light copper with the most pathetic spittle of a head. The aroma sets my fears at ease, for this smells like a truly might brew. Alcohol (!), bourbon-like, but sweet, with that bubblegum like barleywine quality. A hint of vanilla, with definite oak. the palate is on the thin side, but fill the mouth smoothly and feels quite nice with a bit of viscosity making the down the throat burn last. The burn is nice with the tannic roughness of this wine. Again, there’s something very bourbon about this beer, and the flavor is no exception. Huge sweet malt, blends with a bourbon or spiced rum sort of sweetness and a tannic red wine. There are some subtle apple-like fruits in here, but by and large, syrupy and alcoholic. There’s a slight bitterness to this, provided by the oak and alcohol that allows for the sweet malt to be so confrontational. I really really really enjoyed this brew, and just wish it weren’t 5 dollars a bottle! (Who am I kidding, this is worth it... I just wish my local sold this stuff.)

2005 bottle. Its a pinkish-orange color with almost no head but some bubbles around the edge. It smells sweet and like grapes and apples but just too much alcohol in the aroma for my taste. On the other hand, the alcohol isnt too overpowering in the flavour at all- its a really sweet syrupy beer, very slightly fruity, some caramel, some vanilla. Its definitely a full-bodied beer. I really enjoyed this a lot, but mostly just for the flavour. Basically this is a super sweet beer with a lot of alcohol, which works in the flavour but not as well in the aroma, and its a pretty enjoyable sipping beer overall.

Cloudy orange, extremtly thin head. Nose is big plummy/vinous, brown sugar, some alcohol. Alcohol becomes more promiment as it warms. Flavor is sweet raising & grape. Brown sugar, orange syrup. So much caramel. Some alcohol. I really don’t get much oak but that isn’t a bad thing. Honestly almost a bit too much body.

(Bottle, Oliver Twist - Stockholm, may 2006) Brandy-coloured, barley wine-ish beer. No head. Smells oakbarrel and dried fruits. Fudge-sweetness with a warm, sticky alcohol smell. Tastes like butter and syrup, thick to swallow. Taste of barley wine. Some vanilla and concentrated exotic juice. Plum and alcohol. Rock candy, minty caramell. A good beer.
