iwantalambic (1385), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 25, 2006 Updated: Jul 13, 200612 oz bottle, bottled in 2005 (sampled Late May 2006): dark rosy-gold. Almost non-existent off white bubbles…cotton candy and sour mix aromatics mixed with wicked alcohol wisps. Liquid candy mouth-feel with heavy alcohol-vanilla undertones, while sweet tarts and a grassy bitterness enclose the flavours. Harsh alcohol stings the back of the throat. Slick vanilla-caramel candy sweetness delivers the buzz quickly...wow, this one is a bit too much like the devil - scary... PeterA (339), Virginia, USA May 13, 2006 The aroma was heavily grape and molasses. The color was an reddish orange with a thin beige head. The flavor was very sweet, almost bourbon like (what a surprise with a oak aged beer). The mouth feel was very thick and sticky, almost to the point of being off-putting. Overall though, I thought this was a very good beer. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA May 8, 2006 Very very oaky beer. Strong vanilla character. Big caramel, as advertised. Sticky and sweet. I would like some more hops in here to balance the sweetness. Almost like a liqueur in it’s mouthfeel and sweetness. Alcohol is hidden well though, for a 15% beer. Pretty good, but not worth what I payed for it. JMerritt (1313), Macomb, Illinois, USA May 7, 2006 Dark amber with a thin, bright-white head. Aroma is strong of caramel and toffee with an almost cherryish sweetness and a subtle alcoholic burn towards the end. Super-caramelly flavor, loads of brown sugar, molasses, herbally hops, and a clean, tingly alcoholic finish. Sticky, resinous mouthfeel. A wonderful sipping beer, I feel a bit strange sipping this on the back porch on a warm 75-degree spring day - this is well suited for the coldest of winter nights, but still works well in the spring. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 6, 2006 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a clear, dark amber with a creamy, yellowish beige head. Very vinous aroma with distinct oak. Extremely full-bodied, extremely sweet - almost achingly sugary. Lots of fruit - apricot. Very complex, but simply way to sweet and sticky to score a higher rating from me. 220406 Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark May 2, 2006 Bottle, thanx to Papsoe. Orange colour with a big beige head. Light sweet caramel malty, fruity, wood aroma and taste. Full body with a sweet light alcoholic finish. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Apr 29, 2006 This is why I love english barleys over american...its SweeT and super delicous....a sipping beer to the absolute definition of sippin beer....its like a sherry, but mellower and a tad fizzy...so very sweet and amazing..the subtle complex yet brilliant flavours are secret yet stunning and powerful yet mellow..this is about the time my ear goes or my leg falls off because i am at the brink..the cross roads if you will...my life with english is making choices, to sweet to handle, 4 sum...but my alley is set-up right..this is a wonderful but skittish beer(approach with caution that is) ...if it wasn’t costing me a months rent i would drink this when i needed some smiles, the joy similiar to a lap dance for free from a playboy bunny, or enjoying a beer with somerare backyard bbq dodo...thats how this beer tucks me in at night, oh so good + right...its really tight..this beer has alco might and i’m out like a light....dammit those freakin kids!!!! gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Apr 29, 2006 From bottle. Pours a reddish orange with no head. Initial nose of dried apples, pears, apricots, followed up by oak, vanilla and rum soaked raisins. Alcohol also comes through. Flavor has pear, apricots with oak, vanilla, a sugary sweetness with more alcohol. Palate is syrupy thin. Just too much alcohol. Maybe some aging would help.
