3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Funny thing about aroma, itís so near and dear to memory. The first sniff of this brew brought me immediately back to the Mephistopheles stout; though thatís where similarities stop. This beers appearance of reddish ruddy brown and a ring leave a little to be desired to make me come running from across the room to try it. Appearances arenít everything as eharmony will tell you, and tasting this beer is the real reward you get here. The flavors of sweet nectar, oak, and maple syrup dance across the palate. Solid, reminds me very much of a lost abbey angels share, but with a signature Avery taste.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
April 2012 bottle, batch 8 @ 15.47%. Lots of floating sediment on the bottom was a bit off-putting, but with a nice slow pour and swirling that remaining produced a nice hazy orange pour with nice head that came alive with the sediment added. Aroma of sweet caramel, raisin, malt. Taste of same with a slight alcohol tinge at the end but leaves a sweet vanilla-like taste on the palate, desiring more. The burn is gone from when this was fresh. Fantastic and worth a share.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
May have gotten to that overly sweet area. Very mellow, this one was seven years old. Strong but not at all harsh.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours hazy, barely translucent chocolate brown. Didnít get much head. Aroma fills the nostrils with caramel, woody, earthy and toasted malt notes. Sweet flavor features caramel, woody, oaken and earthy notes - this one could sneak up on you! Body is quite viscous, if fizz is none too strong. Dance with Death.

3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a bottle. To borrow a phrase from a neighbor, very mead-like. Rides the fine line between whiskey (good) and honey (not good). Jay slightly cloudy yellow. Just too sweet.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A complex aroma of whiskey, oak, fruit and hops. Pours a hazy caramel color with a white well laced head. A sweet taste of caramel and honey almost mead like. Full bodied creamy feel with a sweet honey finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very different. Pours reddish amber, with almost non-existent head. Taste: Holy caramel, Batman! Almost like a caramel apple. A little heat, but not as much as expected for such a high ABV.

2014 version. Pours a dark amber, with a nice tan head. Aroma is rich, with notes of oak and vanilla. Taste is carmelly and sweet, with lots of wood, and a kick from the alcohol. This is quite a beer! Thumbs way up....
