COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samaelís Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer weíve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate. This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our ďDemons of Ale SeriesĒ.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Funny thing about aroma, itís so near and dear to memory. The first sniff of this brew brought me immediately back to the Mephistopheles stout; though thatís where similarities stop. This beers appearance of reddish ruddy brown and a ring leave a little to be desired to make me come running from across the room to try it. Appearances arenít everything as eharmony will tell you, and tasting this beer is the real reward you get here. The flavors of sweet nectar, oak, and maple syrup dance across the palate. Solid, reminds me very much of a lost abbey angels share, but with a signature Avery taste.

Malty, sweet and sticky with oak on the aroma. cloying sweet and oaky taste almost to the point of being one note. Slight fruity and brown sugar notes on the back. Definitely needs age but not bad fresh ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

7 yr old bottle, 2007. Pours a brownish red with a soft lacing of foam that hugs my glass. The aroma is very candy sugar with semi charred carmel like malts, booze, and a potent oak scent. As I taste this I am taken back by how tasteful this is for 15 percent abv. Yes the Samael is a sipper but it is very enjoyable and favorable. I notoced booze, mild bitterness, sweet candy sugar, and a defined sweet toffee malt flavor. The finish had a bitter sweetness to it with a warming booze quality. Overall this was a rather great beverage even though I am not into high intense abv styles.

Pours dark amber with very little tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of booze with heavy caramel and hint of spice. Flavor is very smooth caramel with booze finish. Excellent beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A deep heavy barley wine. Booze for days and heavy burnt caramel flavor. This one hits and stays with you for a while. The finish is boozy, but not as much as the 15%. Must try!

Sour apple, raspberry aroma. Ruby appearance. Vanilla, banana and fruit taste. Syrup mouthfeel. Strong carbonation. Caramel aftertaste. The booze is surprisingly not very prominent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Pours a copper color with a thin white head which disappears quickly. Aroma is rust, rye bread crust. Taste is sour vanilla, booze, wood, cloying sweetness, dried raisins, sour late and a malty overdose of aftertaste which hangs for a long time. Oddly, Iíd like to see this fermented drier before aging which would raise the alcohol, as itís so thick in the mouthfeel itís like 90 weight and would make for a much more pleasant experience.

Fresh bottle. Pours murky orange/gold with white head. Plenty of carbonation here. Aroma is stone fruit, boozy. First sip coats the tongue completely. Strong oak presence, caramel tones (as described). Very creamy and wonderful mouthfeel. A big alcohol warming presence given the ABV and the alcohol does not hide here. A nice sipper, but only one!

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; batch 1, bottled in 2005. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy dark ruby red color with a minimal wisp of a head that reduces to nothing. Aromas of big raisin, prune, fig, plum, apple, pear, molasses, toffee, caramel, toast, brown bread, oak, light chocolate, vanilla, light clove, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with big complexity and great balance of malt, oak, and yeast ester notes; with big strength. Taste of huge raisin, fig, plum, prune, apple, pear, molasses, brown sugar, brown bread, caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, light clove, toast, chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, prune, plum, fig, pear, apple, molasses, brown sugar, brown bread, caramel, toffee, chocolate, toast, oak, vanilla, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of big dense malt, fruity yeast, and oak flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and moderately syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome English barleywine. Big complexity and great balance of malt, yeast ester, and oak flavors; and quite smooth sip on slowly with no booziness. A highly enjoyable offering.
