Commercial Description:
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate. This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Clear amber body, yellowish head; Medium sized nose with lots of dense malt sweet aroma and fresh oak aroma that is not really fitting; Huge carbonation on very sweet body, it doesnt really have any depth but is still alright; Malt sugary simple sweet finish, both oak and malt syrupy aromas. Not bad at all just reallllly boring.

Beer pours clear amber color with a retained beige colored head. Aroma is rich with butter scotch, alcohol, and molassess. Flavor is very sweet with brown sugar, alcohol, and oak. This is to me pretty similar to JW Lees Harvest, but I like this a bit better. Still, too sweet, for me. I prefer one year old Big Foot to this any day.

Cloudy, copper appearance with an average size, off white head and moderate lacing. Woody, caramel malt aroma with hints of scotch and vanilla. Earthy, dark fruit, mildly spiced flavors. After the sweetness settles, the alcohol pounces and lingers through to the finish where it becomes a bit harsh. Full bodied mouthfeel with little carbonation. Had to get a second bottle because the first one wasted me before I could rate it. Definitely left a lasting impression.

Pours a clear amber color. Slight head that goes away quickly. Smells of plum and cherry. Wow I didn’t expect so much power from this one. Full malty and sweet. Reminds me of a fruity desert. Hints of bubblegum? at the finish. Not bubblegum....vanilla.

This beer is oak aged Beast. The aroma is alcoholic, it will put a tingle in your nose, sweet, fruity(like dates, dried apricots, dried mangos) and woody. I didn’t pick up the vanilla flavors I was expecting in the flavor, it was all sweet. This bottle should age in to something fantastic, as it is now it is just too sweet.

Bottle poured dark copper amber with medium sized white head and heavy lacing. Aroma is yeasty, sweet malts, alcohol, spice. Flavor is WAY sweet! Too sweet! alcohol and black licorice, heavy cloying sweetness, roasty alcohol finish. Too sweet for me ...couldn’t fisish.

Batch 2, bottle, nearly 4 years old. Pours slightly hazy brown-red. Sort of flat. Slightly oxidized nose, lots of brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, and some oak. Boozy as hell and cloyingly sweet. I’ve tried sipping this for about an hour, but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna pour this out.

Nice amber color with constant effervescence. Small creamy head broken by bubbles. vanilla, caramel, oak and alcohol aroma. Very sugary(caramel). Taste the vanilla and oak. 14.5% alcohol. Does Avery try to always get you buzzed after one beer?
