COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate.

This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Bottle. Clear copper red with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, molasses, and booze. Flavor is the same. Full bodied, warm finish with a lingering bourbon.

Pours a clear copper-red color with nearly no head. Just a beautiful and unique color. Big oaky nose. Sticky mouthfeel. Not boozy at all. Fruity and oaky with some notes of vanilla.

Transfer from BA review on 8-9-12 - Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass - 2012 vintage Appearance – The beer is served an amber color with a thin-just off white head that fades fast to leave only a small amount of lacing. While leaving little lacing, the beer clings to the side of the glass upon swirling giving it a “thick” look. Smell – The aroma is heaviest to of sweet smells. Aromas of toffee, caramel, fruit (some dark and tropical) as well as aromas of vanilla and oak. These aroma overall, when mixed with some lighter biscuit, yeasty and boozy aromas make for one nice smelling brew. Taste – The taste hits sweet and hard. There is a huge taste of caramel and toffee with a lighter bready flavor upfront. Some flavors of vanilla and oak are present at the beginning. As time advances the oak and vanilla get stronger. The caramel and toffee that were huge in the beginning decline some with a up-surgence of some of the fruit flavors. More to toward the end a lighter yeasty flavor with a moderate boozy flavor come to the tongue. While there is a boozy flavor that does warm the tongue, it is less then would be expected for a 15 % abv + brew. Overall a sweet warming feel is left on the tongue. Delicious. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thick and creamy with the carbonation level being on the lower side. Both are fantastic for accentuating the sweet, oaky and boozy flavors of the brew. Overall – Overall, it is sweet, flavorful, warming and delicious. This is definitely one to sit back and sip over a long conversation with a friend (or a stranger at a bar that can become a friend). Give it a go if you have the chance.

Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours orange brown with an attractive beige head and an ascerbic fruit and alcohol aroma. There is a sweet caramel malt flavor with a lot of dark fruit, oak and alcohol. A good sipper.

Awesome oak aroma! Smells like a room full of oak casks. Pours thick with a dark caramel color. Malty flavor with notes of caramel with woody highlights. Thick like a Barleywine but definitely a different flavor. Love it!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

April 2007, Batch 3 bottle. This bottle has held up well. Lackluster head on the pour with lots of caramel nose. Lots of alcohol. Flavors of cotton candy, toffee, oak, and rum. Flavor reminds me of a caramel covered (sweet) apple. The oak comes through at the end. A little oxidized but doesn’t hamper the taste.

Way too sweet. After tastes makes me feel like I haven’t brushed my teeth for 3 days and that I have some super bad morning breath.

Poured from12oz bottle, pours a dark with a red tint an off an off white head, aroma is of sweet malt with a hint of oak, flavor is overly sweet with a port wine finish, holy shit, maybe a few years ago I would have like this, but this tastes like an alcoholic piece of dog shit, ugh.

Poured this from a bottle.Very sweet malty aroma. The taste is extremely sweet with the oak flavor shining through and hints of vanilla throughout. It's slightly warm on the way down, but the high ABV is masked well. Overall a great Barleywine, very impressive. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma of raisin, rich molasses. Mahogany red appearance. Taste is sweet malty, heavy alcohol character. Exquisitely rich and decadent. Tacky residual on palate. Zero hop character. Overall, a great strong ale vs barley wine. Recommend sharing with friends. Improves and enriches as it warms to room temperature.

Pours pale red with a thin head. Super sweet aroma. Taste is sticky sweet with notes of cherry and vanilla. Finish is long and boozy. Very unique.
