COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate.

This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Bottle. Clear copper red with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, molasses, and booze. Flavor is the same. Full bodied, warm finish with a lingering bourbon.

Amber with a white head - Sweet malt, dark fruits and wood - Sweet malt body with more sweetness from wood and vanilla, and alcohol - sweet finish with vanilla and alcohol - This was nice, but to hot from alcohol

1000th Rating! Wanted to do something at least a little bit cool for this one time event, so I decided to grab a beer that I have tasted, and enjoyed the hell out of, and do a little compare and contrast. Visiting the brewery a few years ago, I give this brewery/beer a lot of the credit for getting me towards my love for craft beer. 2007 and 2014 bottles enjoyed side by side. The difference in color between the two years was quite surprising. 2014 edition: lighter amber color with short foam head. Brown sugar and graham cracker, sweet malt aroma. Flavor is much more of the same. Finishes on a boozy note with a ton of sweet caramel and brown sugar. 2007 edition: Much smoother. Vanilla. Brown sugar flavor and aroma. Not nearly the amount of booziness here. Nice, oaky cinnamon finish. Fun beer. Awesome barleywine. Hope these guys keep doing what they do.

This is a special beer here for me, had it for the first time at the original Avery brewery. Tried this as a comparison, a 2007 vs a 2014. 2014- dark amber pour, thin head. nice spice hope aroma, very deep aroma. I love the taste, kindof sweet, plum, raisin bitter. Yet smooth. Love it. 2007- very dark amber, no head, you can definitely tell the difference between the two, this one is much smoother, all the same flavors a little more developed, the ageing does this beer well.

March 2014 bottle. Murky copper pour with very little head. Aroma is so much burnt caramel but also lots of cardboard oxidation. Tastes so oxidized. Very hard to drink. Extremely sweet and sugary. This is just terrible. Drain pour.

Bottle vintage 2014. Apperance is light brown with with a solid finger of white head. Aroma is corn syrup, ginger bread, biscuits, ripe fruit, and booze. Taste is light sweetnees, followed by caramel, brown sugar, and some bitter pine. Finshes sweet, with a hint of booze and some light ginger spice, medium bodied, lots of carbonation. As others have noted this is very sweet but it does hide the booze quite well and works well as a slow sipper, I enjoyed this but can see the sweetness being too much for some.

Pours a dark ruby with a very thin head. Aroma is oak and lots of caramel. Flavor is same, but very sweet, and with a full, syrupy mouthfeel. Tons of flavor. Incredible.

Amber color , thin head. Aroma of caramel malt , oak and spices. Sweet caramel , wood , bourbon and fruits in taste . Some alcohol in finish and aftertaste. Strange feeling of the excess of something. I don't know certainly what bother me. Maybe its sweetness.

Lots of barrel in this. Maroon pour with decent head and lacing. Light sweet finish. Very syrupy. Lots of caramel malt. Not the kind of barley wine I prefer. Bottle pour at Churchkey event.
