COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samael is the prince of demons, the angel of death, accuser and destroyer. Filled with enmity towards man, he planted the vine, the forbidden tree of paradise. Behold his venom and vengeance, both sweet and tempting, enticing you, his spellbound victim, within his wings.

Samael’s Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we’ve brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate.

This potent ale is the second installment, along with The Beast, of our “Demons of Ale Series”.

Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, turbinado sugar, hops, yeast, and American oak chips.

Light mahogany ruby color with a thin lihgt-tan head. Aroma is rich with raisins, prunes - big and sweet! Flavor is intense - sweet, caramelly honey with lots of stone fruits, and nectar. The oak comes through more toward the finish. Quite an exquisite finish to an otherwise absolutely fabulous birthday! Tasted May 29, 2008 at Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown - Washington, DC

This was one of the best oak aged else that I've had. The underlining barley wine was excellent and the aging was on the spot. Very enjoyable. Very balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured into snifter a bottle brown with light brown head and lace. Aroma was pure malt, caramel and sweet on the nose. Taste was Carmel malts with slight hint of wood, alcohol hides fairly well for a 14%er. Unbelievably good and amazingly an easy drinker.

Beautiful pour, very little head but huge aromas. Tastes very sweet, alcohol is very upfront, sweet caramel, burnt sugar, restrained alcohol. Amazing beer.

March ’14 bottle date, from Steve’s in Fitchburg, served at cellar temp. Gorgeous reddish/pink/orange pour with almost no head. Aroma has dark stone fruits, oak and sweet malts. Taste is dark sweet fruits, strawberry, stone fruits, toffee and heavy oak. Quite sweet and quite strong. Medium to full bodied with alcohol. Finishes sweetly fruity and oaky. Not cloying but pushing that at times. Unique. 13.5

April 2012 bottle, batch 8 @ 15.47%. Lots of floating sediment on the bottom was a bit off-putting, but with a nice slow pour and swirling that remaining produced a nice hazy orange pour with nice head that came alive with the sediment added. Aroma of sweet caramel, raisin, malt. Taste of same with a slight alcohol tinge at the end but leaves a sweet vanilla-like taste on the palate, desiring more. The burn is gone from when this was fresh. Fantastic and worth a share.

May have gotten to that overly sweet area. Very mellow, this one was seven years old. Strong but not at all harsh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours hazy, barely translucent chocolate brown. Didn’t get much head. Aroma fills the nostrils with caramel, woody, earthy and toasted malt notes. Sweet flavor features caramel, woody, oaken and earthy notes - this one could sneak up on you! Body is quite viscous, if fizz is none too strong. Dance with Death.

Poured from a bottle. To borrow a phrase from a neighbor, very mead-like. Rides the fine line between whiskey (good) and honey (not good). Jay slightly cloudy yellow. Just too sweet.
