An attractive enough pour, a billowy and crisp head sitting on top of a pale golden body. Sunny and bright, which is matched by the lively floral and fruit notes in the aroma. And that’s the peak of this beer. The mouthfeel is perfectly fine, although nothing particularly robust. But the taste is just so anonymous, with some spicy phenols coming through the saison yeast being one of the only distinctive flavors. Sure, there’s a bit of pepper and some citrus, a touch of fleurs. But instead of creating complexity, it seems to result in something mushy, like McSaison. sjmiller05 (13), Colorado, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Looks like Bud, but Bud tastes better. Light yellow with very little head -- no lacing. The smell is earthy, and the taste is nothing great. I am giving this a low review due to the fact I know that Avery can do better. I love there IPAs, but that’s about it. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 3, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear very light yellow with a small white head that quickly goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is very stinky earthy yeast.
The flavor is sweet vegetal malts with earthy yeast and spices and some fruits. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with very spritzy carbonation that makes me hiccup.
Overall, I didn’t care for this at all. CaptainCougar (5547), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Bottle: Pours a transparent bright golden with a thin froth of wispy white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity malts and some light fruity yeasty esters and a touch of honey. Starts with good light malty sweetness and some cantaloupe notes and floral bittering spices before a drier, bittersweet finish with a touch of lingering tartness. Pretty true to style and drinkable. puzzl (2661), New York, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Bottled. Yet another saison. Pours a mostly clear yellow gold with a medium sized, quickly fading head. Sweet, strawberry grain aroma, lactose, coconut water, mint. Good complexity but a bit thin and underattenuated. Very prickly, lively body, fairly thick. Banana and fruit ester flavor, light herbals, with malt sweetness again getting in the way. Why can’t these brewers ever ferment these things properly? Reading the label, I see there are peaches and honey in this thing; I can see that, the prickly, mouth-drying palate of the peach is apparent and the obvious sweetness from the honey. Bleh. Ditch the adjuncts and learn how to brew the beer properly, first. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 26, 2009 Cloudy pale yellow. Faint peach note and a light flowery quality--very feminine, like I’m whiffing a "made for a women" deodorant stick, but it is a bit thin. Moderate palate, not overwhelming in any respect. Drinkable but disappointing. MaltOMeal (668), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 24, 2009 bomber. Pours a cloudy, pale gold with a huge white head. Nose is of zesty lemon yeast, pepper and wheat bread. Taste is spice and lemon yeast. Mouthfeel is dry with lots of carbonation. Fratto (768), Arlington, Texas, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Bottle. My first saison. Floral smells. Floral tastes. A little fruity. I’m not really a fan.
