UPDATED: OCT 8, 2009 12oz. bottle at Logan’s Pre-GABF Party 2009. Strong, sour, funky, winey aroma, woody and fruity with very light sweetness, citrus, hay and wood. Cloudy light amber color with a fine, lasting head. Funky, farmy, tart, woody and sweet flavor, notably tannic with light caramel, wine, red grape, citrus and straw. Utterly dry, moderately bitter finish. Nicely effervescent, nearly puckering and gently warming mouthfeel with a full body. Stuff like this is difficult for me to even conceive of. What you’ve got is something that sounds like a train wreck of flavor, but is actually very good. Sort of mind blowing, at least at first.

12oz., bottled 9/18/2009, with a big thanks to theisti for sharing! Pours a hazy brownish amber with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is more subdued than expected, with some floral, oak, fruit juice, and much lesser notes of light spice, general fruits and cherry. Flavor is a bit fruit juice like, with only the slightest bit of sour and tart, amongst some dark fruits and oak. The 10%+ ABV is nowhere to be found, which is a positive, but overall not as impressive as I would have hoped. Thanks for sharing Tim!

bottle purchased at the Avery Tap Room, poured into a snifter on 10/2/09... round sour notes on the nose along with some lemon, lactose and vanilla... not the typical Brett barnyard funk... more lactose driven based sour notes... ruby red pour with a nice off white head that last a good amount of time before thinning out... as it settles, I really picked up on more oak / wine barrel notes on the nose... beautiful round, smooth and creamy body... very well balanced... perfect sourness... tart on the sides, oak on top... sour finish with lemon notes and a splash of oak... particularly the Chardonnay barrels... lively carbonation throughout. A+. Glad I’ve got one more bottle.

12 oz bottle. Dark gold/reddish with a small thick white head. Nose is very citrusy, tart, cherries, bretty-tons of aroma here. Taste starts off with bitter cherries, sour, tart, deep full flavors, Very carbonated. Fluffy, full body. Excellent beer.

Very hazy reddish brown pour with a decent sized white head, nice lacing. Aroma of sour cherry and oak, very tart, some brett pickle juice funk, sour pineapple, hints of apple cider. Flavor consists of pear & apple sourness, slightly woody, and a brief appearance from the brett barnyard, but very brief. Medium body, moderate-low carbonation, alcohol very well hidden, especially for a 10+ ABV beer! Not all sour ales are pickle juice and sweet tarts! Great beer!

Bottle from Avery. Quite possibly the best sour I’ve sampled. Reddish brown pour with great lacing. Huge depth of flavors with a nice oaky finish. Bourbon or port barrels? There are definitely cab barrels present. Excellent.

small tan head with good retention and solid lacing. Light amber in color, light haze.Gorgeous nose of light funk, vinous and bourbon notes, woody, spicey, fruity, entertaining. Medium body with a soft carbonation, lightly prickly but well mannered, nicely tart faintly sour, slick. Well balanced woody flavors, bourbon and vinous notes, nicely funky and tart, dry maltiness with plenty of wood to keep us woodworkers happy, mouthwatering fruityiness, cherrys and earthy. Dry tart funky finish. As my friend eaglefan said "best beer Avery every made" cant argue with that. Highly quaffable brew and the 10% ABV was not even noticeable. Thanks to Robert of stateline fame for bringing this lovely brew back from his GABF excursion. Thanks bro you da man!

12 oz bottle from CaryTheDude. Pours orange with some off white head. Aroma of bourbon, leather, barnyard. Herbs, sour cherries. Flavor is complex as hell. Mostly bourbon with port sherry notes, brett, a light tartness. Wood. Good carbonation. Great mouth feel with tart finish. Really bad ass sour beer from avery.

( 12oz bottle ) Pours a lightly hazy yellow body with a small off-white head. Aroma of barnyard, cherry, caramel, and wood. Flavor of grass, cherry, green raisins, vanilla, caramel, light herbs, and leather.

Bottle.
Pours a deep, rich cheddar orange with a nice head and intricate lacing. Aroma is straight-up cherry cedar with sprinkles of cinammon biscuit. Flavor is a sweet yet sour cedar plank stuffed inside a woody and mild cherry pie with a leather crust. Pleasant mouthfeel that pokes and prods as it travels along the tongue. Much, MUCH better than the Brabant. I’m saving a bottle to see what it does over time.
