Ubiquibeer (140), Cleveland, USA Dec 17, 2004 Pours orange with a very small yet persistent head. I get a sweet, malty, citrus aroma. Sweet malt, light hops, fruity taste, as well as a combination sticky yet light mouthfeel. Finish is bitter sweet with a slight alcohol. A good beer, nothing fantastic though. Slightly underrated IMO, I think this is a 3.8 to 3.9 beer. Tasty, potent with a very acceptable mouthfeel and finish. IMO finish is THE most important aspect of a beer. It’s where, like a guitar string being tuned, all the flavors come together. Many, not all but many, of this beer’s shortcomings are salvaged by its finish. Quaffable.
nefarious (69), grand blanc, Michigan, USA Nov 28, 2008 Well I actually found this at Oliver T’s buried on a shelf covered in dust. 5 years old! this is either gonna be a wonderful find or a waste of green. Poured hazy copper/orange in to my snifter. almost no head. overly sweet citrus and hops...slight raison. OK...here we go...slight hops and raisons....although the sweetness isnt there like I expected...very good finish. no traces of alcohol. I think this has been aged a little too long. I would love to try it fresh...even 2-3 years old would be good...isnt bad though I think past its peak flavor. A good find none the less.
douglas88 (942), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 19, 2008 Bottle generously shared by footbalm, thanks man! Bottled in 2003, drank in 2008. Pours a cloudy apricot color with a medium white head. The aroma is very nice; tons off sweet candies, candied fruits and some brown sugar. The flavor is also quite sweet; lots of fruits; passionfruit and mango, lots of toffee, caramel, and other sweet sugar based goodies. Some slight oxidation and a hint of bitter hops in the finish. As others have said this is much like a nice barleywine. Very nice. The aging has done some good things. alexsdad06 (688), Ohio, USA Sep 13, 2008 6 oz. sample poured into a snifter. Pours a hazy amber with a small off white head. Ther aroma was mainly sweet caramel malt, alcohol, and fruit. The flavor had a huge malt presence. Sweet caramel, vanilla, fruit, and a hint of the alcohol. This one has become more barleywine like. Sweet, smooth, and syrupy. No hoppy bitterness at all. It would make for a decent sipper as the weather cools. illinismitty (1476), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 14, 2008 Bottle from Shigadeyo that I shared at RBSG. Ross is a self appointed rating god, I am going to rate this because he does not believe in rating vintage beers. Pours reddish amber with an off white head. Nice sweet and boozy aroma. Medium bodied with average carbonation and very slight syrupy texture. Flavor of caramel and butterscotch, with a tinge of cinnamon. Hops have pretty much faded, leaving this beer very sweet and malty beer. Sort of like a lighter barleywine. Hudspart (327), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Apr 20, 2008 Bottle: Pours orangish red with a small head. Aroma of cinnamin and hops. Alcohol is easy to detect. Not bad.
