4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Ooomph!!! Pours an extremely thick amber-brownish with not much of a head (it actually makes no sound at all as it is poured into the glass).
The aromas are heavier than heavy!! Primarily raisins, dried dates, moscovado sugar, coriander, oranges, apricots and a brandy-like hint of alcohol.
Thick and massive on the palate, it coats the tongue in sugar and delivers flavours of honey, apricots and a vinous aftertaste that lasts forever. This is truly an impressive and amazing beer, but also one where I wouldn’t want to drink more than - at most - a third of a bottle.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at falling rock. 2010 version. Hazy amber with a thin beige head. Aromas of wheat, grain, plum, raisin, light wood and vanilla. Flavor is the same, mostly sweet with a warm finish. Full bodied. Lingering plum.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Batch 8. Pours a deep dark red orange. Aroma is sweet dark fruit, dried plumes, Belgian yeast and honey notes, citrus and orange marmalade. Taste is a combination of all the aforementioned aromas and nuances. Palate is a full rich body, slight creaminess and full flavored. The finishes is a combination of sweet caramel malt, Belgian yeast, fruity notes of dried fruit plums and honey followed a good kick of bitter hops and a good punch of alcohol on the end. Aroma becomes overwhelming as it warms up. Overall seems A bit too strong for my taste.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark orange amber with ruby highlights. Short lived off white head.
Nose was raisins, booze, oak, rum, bread and sugar. Forward sweet and boozy nose that was in control of what it was. Big beer off the bat.
Taste is rum, raisin, oak, and sugar. Hammer of the booze hits hard and aggressive. Good punch though.
Low carbonation, big feel. There is enough carbonation to perk this up and slice through the booze.
Big US style Belgian beer that makes the grade. Top notch stuff

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Batch # 11. Aromas of raw cane sugar, raisins, drier fortified wine, maybe fino sherry, alcohol, strong but not too assertive. Clear brown, no head. Dry, hot, definite fumes from the alcohol, some subtle nuttiness, some molasses. Sticky, medium-full bodied, lingering strong malts and alcohol in the finish. Not the smoothest beer by far, interesting in complexity, a little obnoxious with the alcohol level, but not totally unwarranted given the label, and supposed intention.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Toffee/amber colored pour. Small off-white, almost tan, head. Quick to fall. Little bit of lacing. Yeasty aroma with some malt and sugar notes. Some dry fruit, raisins mostly. Trademark Avery over-sweetness to the point of being cloying. Very boozy. Finishes like syrup and very hot.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Had on tap at blind tiger (this is the 2010)- pours a hazy mahogany color with 1.5 fingers of creamy white head. Good retention, some splashes of lacing.
Smell is great- very thick and a little musty. Lots of toasted barley, some molasses, a little booze. Surprisingly little for the abv. I smell some wood as well.
Tastes fantastic- full of smooth, rich barley malt flavor. Certainly sweet, rich caramel flavors, a little spice, kind of peppery. Toffee.
Mouthfeel is very appropriate- full bodied, modest carbonation but enough to make it possible to drink. Long finish that leaves a nice bready caramel flavor. I would definitely get this one again.
