COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

Had on tap at blind tiger (this is the 2010)- pours a hazy mahogany color with 1.5 fingers of creamy white head. Good retention, some splashes of lacing. Smell is great- very thick and a little musty. Lots of toasted barley, some molasses, a little booze. Surprisingly little for the abv. I smell some wood as well. Tastes fantastic- full of smooth, rich barley malt flavor. Certainly sweet, rich caramel flavors, a little spice, kind of peppery. Toffee. Mouthfeel is very appropriate- full bodied, modest carbonation but enough to make it possible to drink. Long finish that leaves a nice bready caramel flavor. I would definitely get this one again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle shared: 2013 vintage. Appearance: lighter than I expected, dark copper color, clear, finger of copper head, no lacing, oak, honey. Aroma: citrus, caaramel, roasted malt like crazy (smells like a brewery), floral. Palate: soft carbonation, alcoholic warming that is almost spicey, dry, oily texture. Taste: relatively coating sugary sweetness, into a medium bitterness that gets much better and bolder as the beer warms up. Overall, very complex big beer, super unique, delicious, just not very drinkable (6oz. was plenty).

Bottle from Royal Liquor, Encinitas, CA. Batch 10 (2012): 16.0% ABV. Unclear dark orange, light brownish colour with a thin beige head. Aroma is malty, caramel, raisins, dried fruits, brown sugar, slight roastiness, slight alcohol nose. Flavour is caramel malts, syrup, dried fruits, slight alcoholic, a bit spicy. Soft mouthfeeling, low carbonation. A hopped barley wine. A real sipper. Very pleasant. It has some age on it, so I guess the sweetness has mostly been gone, which seems to be a good thing. Nice to wind down with after the NL - CRC spectacle.

Bottled August 2011, almost three years old. This is great. I presume some burning has abated over time. Burns a little, but balanced with the other characteristics of the beer. Really complex.

Batch 11 (2013) Pours clear dark ruby red color with beige head. Aromas of dark fruits, dough and alcohol. Raisin and plum flavors with some yeast. Quite boozy. Full body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. A nice sipper.

This is it... 666th rating. Got the Iron Maiden song playing, using an old bible opened to Revelation as a coaster, now all we need is... well... The Beast! So here we go. 12 oz bottle procured in August of 2013, been sitting in my cellar for about 9 months (and probably should be sitting there for at least another 6 months, but this was an emergency rating situation). Poured into my lovely Negra Modelo tulip (Cinco de Mayo freebie from the beer dinner), a deep rich caramelly sepia brown, medium off white head with decent retnetion and lacing. Nose is big and sweet, brown sugar, honey, sticky malts and toffee, dried fruits (dates, raisins and figs mainly), not getting any yeast, but who gives a shit. Mouth is big and sticky, sweet and malt forward, big caramel, candy sugar, dates, figs, fades into oaky tannins, tobacco and some raisin bread with a bitt of a lingering bitterness at the finish, nice warmth at the back of the throat. ABV is evident, but not overpowering. Bruce Dickinson is howling into the mic and I’m already feeling the effects of The Beast. ;-) Rev 12:12 Woe to you o earth and sea, for the Devil sends the beast with wrath for he knows the time is short. Let he who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number: its number is Six-hundred and sixty-six. Bottle. I believe this was the 2012 version. Pours muddy orange with almost no head. Aroma is peach, pear, some floral notes. Taste is a combination of those along with some dark sugars, molasses, raisin/plum/fig. The alcohol has serious bite. Stings quite a bit actually. Not unpleasant, but hard to finish a full bottle.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle that says Bottled in 2009. So this has been aging for awhile. The color is dark brown with a short-lived head. Lots of vibrant aroma of caramel malts, licorice, brown sugar, roasted malts, and a slight booze quality. The body is around medium to above medium. In some respects this is an outstanding beer once I taste it it because the malts and alcohol just explode in my mouth. But it is a but much for regular drinking. Have this once in a blue moon.

Tap at falling rock. 2010 version. Hazy amber with a thin beige head. Aromas of wheat, grain, plum, raisin, light wood and vanilla. Flavor is the same, mostly sweet with a warm finish. Full bodied. Lingering plum.

Batch 8. Pours a deep dark red orange. Aroma is sweet dark fruit, dried plumes, Belgian yeast and honey notes, citrus and orange marmalade. Taste is a combination of all the aforementioned aromas and nuances. Palate is a full rich body, slight creaminess and full flavored. The finishes is a combination of sweet caramel malt, Belgian yeast, fruity notes of dried fruit plums and honey followed a good kick of bitter hops and a good punch of alcohol on the end. Aroma becomes overwhelming as it warms up. Overall seems A bit too strong for my taste.
