ChazMania (314), Pasadena, California, USA Mar 16, 2007 2006 bottle. Pours a color that is deceiving in that it looks like an amber ale (aka Boont Amber). The aroma comes up and is prune/fig like. The first sip is sweet, really sweet. Raisin and molasses like but very interesting and complex. Early this week I had a DogFish Raisin D’ Extra and this is similar in flavor. This might be slightly easier on the tongue than the DFH. Good dessert/night cap beer but I could never have more than one.
ceffalo (19), , Texas, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours a coffee-like color with a heavy, foamy head. 14.6% abv. Aroma is sweet, like a mixture of berries, with bread. Very interesting, which I would, and should, expect from a $10 beer.
Whoa, what a flavor. Tastes of a rich raisin and plum with a strong wheat bread accent. Absolutely superb flavor. A little hot going down, which I would expect from such a high alcohol content. There’s even a slight chocolate kick that’s absolutely amazing. This is easily the best beer I’ve ever tried and I’m glad I purchased it.
This beer I’m drinking now was brewed in 2006 and I’m sure that the aging has had some affect on it’s potent flavoring.
It’s also clearly a sipping beer.
Hank1980 (413), Athens, Georgia, USA Nov 20, 2008 2007 bottle shared. Poured clear brown with thin beige head. Aroma of booze, dark fruit, malt. Taste is heavy booze, fruit, sweet malt, yeast. Very nice. Body is sticky. Very nice for sipping and sharing. Finish is alcohol. Overall, a very enjoyable brew. stefanje (605), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Oct 31, 2008 12 oz bottle from Bev4less. Pours a translucent brown color with a small khaki head that soon dissipates to fine film. The aroma is strong with raisins, dates, plums and alcohol. The flavor is similar to the nose with emphasis on the alcohol( It is not well hidden). The mouthfeel is full and malty. The finish is long with a bit of alcohol burn. Overall: This would make my top 50 if only they could figure a way to hide the alcohol better. That aside, this is a good beer to drink on Halloween. Pawola22 (123), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Batch 6 from 2008 @ 16.31% ABV. Pours a deep, see through ruby red with no head or lace. Thick and rich aroma of sugar sweet malts, berry candy, raisin, alcohol, and a faint backing of hop spiciness. Very full and chewy body. Syrupy. Taste is also thick, rich, and warming. Sweet berry maltiness at first, then a strong ale flavor and candy sugar, finishing very nicely balanced with a little bit of honey, molasses, and raisin. Ends smooth and warm with a pleasant sour plum/bitter/alcohol taste. Overall, I’m impressed. The alcohol is absolutely unavoidable, but it is extremely well balanced while never taking over. End result...a very enjoyable beer. Well done! blutt59 (930), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 17, 2008 bottle, 2008 bottle, golden honey color with a great fruity malt nose, flavor of almonds, refined sugar, caramel and light smokiness, finish is sticky and long lasting, alcohol is not biting but felt otherwise
