Commercial Description:
Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

2005 bottle, 11.03% abv. A low light brown head over a pitch black body. Sweet aroma of roasted dark malts, dark dried fruits and caramel. Strong flavors of sweet malts, molasses, roast and tar. Lots of bittering hops. Oily mouthfeel. Big body. Long bitter-sweet finish. (Sample @ RBNAG’07)

From a 22 oz bottle from Bevmo in Van Nuys this poured a very dark brwon tending toward black with an small off-white head and good lacing. Nose of chocolate and ripe fruit. Rich and creamy mouthfeel. Very nice flavor of coffee and chocolate from the dark malts with a long malty and bitter finish. Very good stuff.

07 batch Dark black pour, with a think cola like head, lots of lacing on glass. Immediatley smell molases, hops and a spicy sweetness. Taste is molasses, chocolate, coffee, slight alcohol but not overpowering just perfect. Very drinkable!

Batch was from 2007. The beer pours a great dark black with a very finely carbonated tan head which sits on top very frothy. The aroma hits you as soon as you open the bottle. A great strong sweet molasses, prune, chocolate and alcohol aroma abound from the beer as it sits waiting to be drank. Flavor is heavy of alcohol but it seems to accentuate deep molasses and chocolate flavors in the beer. The flavor really sticks to your tongue with the chocolate and alcohol lasting the longest. The beer is very frothy in your mouth, its med-heavy mouth feel but quite frothy, like drinking the top foam off of a hot chocolate. Beer leaves great lacing on the glass. A great beer and highly recommended.
