Commercial Description:
Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

sweet nose, a bit of alcohol. mild chocolate, good coffee balanced with other roasted grain flavors. Dangerously drinkable. Lots of chocolate with, with fruity licorice and the slightest touch of alcohol. Hops are piney, they don't jump out but rather lurk underneath. Doughy flavor throughout, excecptionaly balanced. Exactly what i'm looking for in a beer.

Bomber. Pours the darkest of browns with a three finger tan head. Aromas are heavy chocolate with a bit of dried cherries and prunes. Flavor has a nice mix of chocolate and fruit (I’d swear it’s almost more like cherries than anything else.) Alcohol is fairly obvious, but not too distracting. Has a creamy texture and a bit of a cream flavor... that said, things don’t seem to come together very well. I’m not sure if it is just too sweet or what the problem is, but I expected this to be much better.

Bottle. Pours black with a little brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Flavor is very astringent alcohol, with very little else to balance it out, slight coffee and chocolate flavor. Alcohol is a little overpowering in this one.

From bottle. Poured black with chocolate and caramel aromas. Full bodied with heavy dark chocolate, currants and spice. Nice long smooth finish considering the high alcohol content.

Crushed with Jakebra. Quite delicious. Dark fruits and bitterness. And yum. A little watery, but still definitely worth trying. Would definitely crush again.

In short: A brutal intensely alcoholised, molasses/syrupy impy stout. Almost acceptable.
How: Bottle 22oz, 2006 vintage drank when 1+ year old
The look: Black body topped by a little beige ring of foam
In long: Nose of molasses and alcohol fumes. Taste is very one dimensional. This is in-your face alcohol and molasses with some black liquorice. Smooth carbonation. Too sweet and syrupy to even feel roasted. Some earthy tobacco in the finish. Some black chocolate comes out as the beer warms up and almost saves the day, almost. So brutal and nasty that this is really Avery Ivan The Terrible Imperial Stout.
