Sweet toffee, hops, roasted malt, and alcohol in the aroma. Smooth taste of chocolate, mocha, caramel, and just alittle alcohol. I couldn't help but think there was also some oats thrown in somewhere here. Soft round mouthfeel. This is a great beer!

Bottle thanks to a trade. Pours near black with a coffee brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a lot of dark grains with a bit of chocolate that adds a touch of sweetness and light roasted malts. Flavor is richer with roasted malts and bitter chocolate backed by dark grains

Classically beautiful no-nonsense imperial stout. Hits all the right notes. Thick but not too thick. Perfect roasted malts in flavor. Perfect amount of hoppy and lingering bitterness. Coffee and chocolate notes to the right degree. If you want to know what an imperial stout should be, look no further.

Bomber from Brennans (Milwaukee area’s Avery source!). Cellar aged 6 months. Pours a cola black with a foamy chocolate milk head leaving a lot of lacing. Aroma has chocolate and toffee and molasses with roasted malt and bit of grape. Taste is of rich sweet chocolate with some bakers chocolate in the mix. Roasty espresso with some caramel. A touch of alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Luscious. Finishes bittersweet and rich. The best Avery brew?? A bit of an inconsistent brewery, despite Graham’s review, but this is a very good one.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dragonfly1 (414) - - MAY 11, 2013
Thanks Lew. Black, with imperceptible tan lacing. Big aroma, carried across 2 rooms when poured. Full of licorice, chocolate pudding. Massively thick, flavor is espresso, roasty dark chocolate, and pot de creme in a glass. Nice roasted bitter balance to the heavy malt and chocolate. 11% abv is incredibly absent. There is depth and complexity to this that will bring me back for many more.
