HighlanderOne (538), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA Nov 7, 2009 Poured from big bottle. Aroma burnt brown sugar and vanilla ice cream. Clear dark amber, thin tan head. The big malt flavor along with the alcohol just explodes and expands in your mouth. Herbal aftertaste, which at first I wasn’t crazy about but blended nicely as it warmed. arminjewell (100), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 5, 2009 Probably my favorite oktoberfest beer from someone who doesn’t like oktoberfest beers. It is a very well balanced beer with tastes of hops, malt and cloying sweetness at the end. A rich beer, but lacking overall with something to stand out. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Nov 3, 2009 Poured clear and copper with a nice white to off-white head. Decent lacing. The aroma is malts, spice and booze. The flavor is light citrus hops, malts, spices and slightly aggressive alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with leans towards syrupy and medicinal qualities. Didn’t taste like an oktoberfest but overall it was an interesting beer. jb (1023), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 1, 2009 I don’t know who thought up the idea this is an Okt, more of a barley wine maybe? Though of a German style. Certainly doesn’t have the key Okt. quality, you wouldn’t be able to drink this session-style. Very potent nose, brandy, a bit of alcohol, mulled cider, spicy. Bigtime toffee in the palate, very malty palate, very nice, also a bit of an edge to the palate because of the booze. There must be some hops in there because I wasn’t sickened with sweetness. The look of this was a brownish orange.. Not much of a head. Excellent beer. BrewingFan (42), Texas, USA Nov 1, 2009 Malty nose, with a touch of butterscotch. Amber color darkens with a thicker glass. Palate is thick and smooth. Flavor a bit overpowered by the alcohol. Let it warm a bit and the complex character of this beer comes alive. A bit spicy, a abit bitter, and the alcohol smooths out. Good touch of hops finishes this strong beer up. cprochak (387), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2009 22 oz bomber pours dark orange with bubbly tan head. Caramel and butter aroma. Touch of pine. Nice balanced sweetness and touch of bitter. Too much alcohol on the tongue that could use some aging. Impressive Oktoberfest. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Oct 29, 2009 Very malty nose, caramel, bread. The appearance is true to the style, a reddish clear color, white head. The flavor is very malty, caramel, brown sugar, bread. Slight tinge of alcohol in there as well. The mouthfeel is medium, slightly on the thick side. I expected something with more body from the aroma and description. The finish is spicy, nobel hops, and a slight booze warming, which takes over after a minute or two. Decent Marzen, thick, strong, sweet, enjoyable. But I expected more. It’s not the best marzen I’ve had. maybe my expectations were too high. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2009 Weird, i really liked this Fest/Märzen with big attitude. Meaty malts give it a good body and the flavors are rich but not treacly. Quite balanced smooth and enjoyable.
