BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 A- Pours a clear, copper orange hue with a off-white creamy head that is mostly sustaining, thick lacing sticks on the glass
S- Aroma is dominated by sweet, rich malts and dark fruit, some interesting strawberries and apples come push their way forward, hints of citrus
T- Initial taste is rich and fruity like a thinned out barleywine with plenty of sweet brown sugar and spices, finishes with a medium alcohol warming
M- Medium/full bodied ale, watery texture that coats the tongue, lively carbonation
D- This is one stiff, malty Marzen ale in the vein of Avery’s big imperial style ales, and is definitely optimal in lower quantities, the fruity profile is unique without being awkward or cloying but is a huge departure from classic offerings in this genre Slipstream (734), USA Feb 4, 2009 Great photo of Kaiser Wilhelm on the label with a spike sticking out of his helmet. Unfiltered rust colored pour with a light head. Full malt and hop aroma plus a little orange or peach. Full molasses and malt flavor to start, with mellow, peppery hops coming it. Some cheese and grain notes too. This supercharged marzen is an excellent beer, the first imperial Oktoberfest I have seen. This Kaiser could kindle dreams of a fourth reich. mesperon (133), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA Jan 31, 2009 pours clear copper with small head (perhaps too cold). Tan head of small bubbles with nice lace. malty sweet aroma with nutty notes. no hops on the nose. Creamy mouthfeel, spicy alcohol to start. Good malt base with herby hops, woody aftertaste. stouby (1931), Holbaek, Denmark Jan 25, 2009 Bottle at Horsens Hostel.
Orange with a large orange head. Aroma moderate/heavy malty (caramel) and hoppy. Flavor moderate/heavy sweet and bitter, round. Almost full body. BleacherBum (176), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA Jan 21, 2009 Appearance is a burnt orange hue. Right on for the style. Aroma is big on the caramel/toffee, some hops and alcohol. Flavor is more of the same, with more emphasis on hops than I’d anticipated. The bready and caramel aspects come in spades upon the first sip. The hop bitterness and flavor clean things up and balance the beer out. Finish is snappy and clean. Wow. For 10% there were no real syrupy qualities and it was very clean. This seems like a lager version of a barleywine, and I like it! Great beer! jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 21, 2009 The look is a bright clear golden amber color with a generous white head. The aromas are spicy, honey, clove, and malts. The flavors are malts and spices. ljstephenson (111), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Jan 19, 2009 Strong alcohol presence, a bit oily finish, strong hoppiness, finishes a bit softer than it starts. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Jan 13, 2009 2007 bottle pours reddish orange with a thin beige head. Massive malty aroma with notes of hot alcohol. Flavor is loads of maltiness with some spiciness from the alcohol in the finish.
