Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2008 On tap at Trappeze. Poured amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, light fruit. Taste is pretty malty, with some fruit, spice, and mild hop finish. Mouth is smooth. Overall, a heavily malted strong Oktoberfest. drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 30, 2008 22 oz. bottle year 2008. Pours a thin rapidly collapsing head, minimal lacing, over an orangish gold body....nose of bread, yeast, malts and some fruit esters, reminding of banana....tastes of spice, fruits, again banana (lots of esters and phenols) malts, with a closing sweetness ,finished by hops. Superb mouth feel. This is an Imperial Octoberfest which is a variation on Amber. It was a little too chemical and alcoholic to be in perfect balance, but was quite delicious none the less. KnutAlbert (3110), Oslo, Norway Oct 30, 2008 Bottle from New Beer Distributors, NYC.
2008 version.
Lovely dark glowing amber.
Nutty, fruity, vinous.
This is way beyond a boing Oktoberfest and into barley wine territory. Well balanced, but it is for slow sipping.
lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 28, 2008 My 100th rating for October 2008! 2005 bottle at 8.9%, Dark purple-red, with a finger of light whitish head that dissipates quickly. Sweet caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lightly fruity of raisins, figs, and plums. Almost syrupy feel. Very sweet body, brown sugar, more raisins and caramel, then a potent herb/grassy hoppiness for a marzen. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Oct 27, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. Everything you ever wanted in a good Oktoberfest...with a little more. Very sweet malt, lots of malts, wonderful malts. They definitely show through more than the hops. Pretty damn good. heynik1885 (53), tonawanda, New York, USA Oct 25, 2008 08 bottle, Amber colored pour, with a big fluffy white head. Strong malt aroma, Excellent malt flowerey taste, and a nice sweetness. ABV is not apparent. Well done brew. jujubeast6000 (772), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 23, 2008 (bottled 2007): Pouws a clear amber brown body. Creamy off-white head, good lacing, diminishing. Syrupy sweet malty aroma. Fruity, almost pungent. That same fruit taste. Malty. Eh, not a fan. Floback (333), Naples, Florida, USA Oct 23, 2008 Bottle from Total Wine. Pours an amber color and practically no head. The nose is grains and subtle hints of berries and other vinous fruits. The taste here is very boozy with astringent alcohol, toast, dark fruits, biscuit, and subtle hints of resinous hops in the back of the mouth. Medium carbonation and full body. Not bad, but certainly not the easiest beer to drink, and almost unnecessarily so with the ABV being only 10 percent.
