cab (862), Denmark Sep 26, 2008 Bottle. 2005. Lots of sweet bubble-gum vinous notes in the nose. Malty backbone with the alcohol hidden till the beer is gone. dkachur (2319), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 25, 2008 22 oz. bottle from Wine Warehouse. Orange pour with a thin quickly dissipating head. Toasted malt aroma with some caramel notes. Taste is bready malts, cotrus, caramel. A little bit off-kilter. Alcohol hidden fairly well. Full bodied. reakt (938), Greater London, England Sep 23, 2008 Updated: Oct 20, 2008Bottle @ EBF. Copper with an off white head. Sweet bready malt, caramel (seems to be a theme in Avery beers) and some orangey, floral hops, as in most Avery’s there’s a good lick of alcohol also. Having only had Maharaja and Mephistopheles before the fest I championed Avery beers but now I think I need to visit the source for reassurance. Take 2 @ chris o’s Hazy amber with an off white head. Sweet and corney with lots of candi sugar, cakey malt and a good lick of alcohol. 5,3,5,3,14. BeerGestapo (729), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 22, 2008 Updated: Apr 28, 2009Brewed in the USA, Courtesy of The Captain, thanks Mark. Pours a lite orange color with a foamy white head. Aroma is of sour apples, caramel, and some hops. Taste of sweet spices and the 10.03% alcohol comes through in the finish. This Oktoberfest is a bit different for me but very drinkable. (PROST) ....... Also, The bottle is very cool. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 22, 2008 Well I wanted to rate this as 300 but it gets the 301 spot-so there! Shared with some of the Devonshire boys at death with a K’s. Poured in a glass stein-an orange hazy amber with a great foam head. Pleasant sugary sweet aroma with a fruit sourness. The taste makes your teeth hurt but once it warms up it’s enjoyable. Nice hops sweet malt blend but a little too sweet. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Sep 21, 2008 tap at hopcat at avery beer dinner. very malty sweet aroma. slight strawberry flavor. very tasty. rampmaster (316), Alden, New York, USA Sep 21, 2008 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.
Appearance: It has a copper or reddish amber color with a thin and creamy, light tan head. The body has good clarity and some visible carbonation. Its head fades out quickly leaving just a few stray bubbles on top.
Smell: The aroma has a spicy hop presence with lighter malty notes and a hint of grainy alcohol.
Taste/Mouth feel: Its flavor starts with its solid malty backbone that has a dark caramel sweetness. A grainy alcohol pops out and gives the beer some bite and its hop flavor is spicy and a little bit earthy. It finishes slowly with some bitterness from the hops. The palate has a slick heavy texture with mild carbonation.
Notes: The alcohol has a harsh unrefined quality to it, which holds down its drinkability. Overall it is still very interesting.
afireinside96 (817), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 21, 2008 22oz bottle shared by The Captain. Thanks Mark. Pours orangish amber with a good amount of foam. Smell is very sweet, some noble hop spiciness, and sour apple. Taste is very similar, lots of noble hops and very sweet. Interesting but I don’t think I will ever need to drink it again.
