ders0 (5), , Minnesota, USA does not count Oct 28, 2009 Had this out of a bomber. It pours a dark orange with a thin head that also appears a bit orange or off white. It tastes very malty and quite sweet but not too overpowering. As I got to the bottom of the glass and it warmed up a bit you can really smell and and somewhat taste the booze, but that’s to be expected and appreciated with a brew like this. bblack99 (197), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 25, 2009 Copper pour with a strong off-white cap of head, decent lacing. Smells like fall, with a huge mix of malts and a slight nose of alcohol. Flavor matches, with a powerful blast of spicy hop bitterness to match the chewy, bready nature of this turbo-charged malty monster.
Just a bit too spicy and high in ABV (9.7%) to make it drinkable, but this would have been great in a taster. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Oct 25, 2009 22oz bottle at K&L. Amber brown with a off-white head that is not the towering pillow of the authentic oktoberfest beers, but then again, this is not your typical oktoberfest beer. I was skeptical going into this from a theoretical perspective; it seemed like an imperial oktoberfest would simply be a doppelbock. There Avery goes being silly again. Well, I have to admit that The Kaiser pretty much nails what you would imagine an imperial oktoberfest to be, while remaining distinctly different from most doppelbocks. The difference hinges on drinkability. Yes, it is a total malt bomb, but it manages to be dry any lean enough to still give off some semblance of quaffability that it’s mother-style is known for. The aroma is big and bready with a rich dark bread-crust and moist bred-center character. The flavor delivers all of this malt pretty straightforward with just enough hops to make themselves known and balance the lot. Full, but with a texture that is slicker than most doppels and lends itself to generous sips. Pretty straightforward overall, but it does what it sets out to do pretty well. brewski519 (395), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Oct 23, 2009 22 oz bomber - pours an amber color wth a thin head. Aroma of malt, yeast, some hops and sugar. Nice smooth balanced malt flavor with caramel, sweetness and spices. Solid brew that I will re-visit again next fall for sure. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 20, 2009 On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. Pours a deep chesnut brown/amber. Rich malty aroma, caramel malt sweetness. Taste is almost Barleywine or Bockish like richness. Boozy, sweet malts to almost overly sweet. Full creamy mouthfeel. Anyhow, prety well made but a sipper Hopper (285), San Antonio, Texas, USA Oct 20, 2009 A amber beer with a nice frothy head. The aroma is sweet, & does smell like fall. The taste is so sweet malty with some alcohol. This is way too sweet. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Oct 17, 2009 Enjoyed on the opening day of Oktoberfest... at home. In my humongous stein. I wish I remembered details - all I can say is that it was damn good for an Oktoberfest. High gravity makes everything better, especially an aching back. savnac (394), Palmer, Alaska, USA Oct 15, 2009 22 oz bottle. Clear copper/amber with a dense tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is caramel, bread, fruit, spice and alcohol. The flavor is mostly sweet and bready, there is a really nice grainy aftertaste, alcohol is barely present. Medium to full body with a mild carbonation and a thick mouth feel. This is a unique twist on a Marzen, very nice.
