The Kaiser once said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world." If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we'd all be "sprechenden Deutsch!" We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest - gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent noble hops - then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest.

22oz - 2007 - Aroma of sweet caramel malt, cotton candy, toffee and toasted malts. Slightly floral. Pours dark orange with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor matches aroma with the floral taking on some more pronounced hop bitterness. Palate is sticky, dry and syrupy. Overall not a bad tasting beer, but too sweet and syrupy for me.

2006 bottle. Cloudy orange with a long lasting off-white head. Intense aroma of bready malt and sherry alcohol notes, plus perhaps a little dates. Malt dominated flavour is about as dry as a strong lager can get, I suppose - which is quite sweet. Alcohol isdominating, and overpowering. Perhaps years of cellaring will make it good, but right now I’m not as impressed as I hoped.

Well gosh darn! It’s about time someone made a lager and didn’t castrate the damned thing. Thanks Adam! The beer is copper colored, and has a 2 inch foam on the pour that lasts 5 minutes. Lacing is average. Aroma of sweet malty, and a bit of alcohol. Some darker fruit is evident. Flavor is full sweet (of natural sugars), dark fruit malt. A slight burn going down. Hops show up on the finish.

What the heck is an Imperial Oktoberfest? *drinks* Ah, I get it. This is everything you liked (or not) about a standard Marzen amplified by 10. Lots of malts with a huge hop backbone. Undernotes of orange and caramel.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-05-15) Golden and hazy. White medium head. Sweet nose. Some fizziness in palate. Malty sweet taste. Bitter aftertaste. Hops taste clearly. Softened a bit by pouring some yeast in.

(Bottled) Almost clear amber with a small, lightly lacy head. Very grainy-malty aroma with some strawberry and alcohol hints. Berry-grainy, very malty, lightly alcoholic flavor with some honey sweetness, but also very reasonable hopping. Medium to full-bodied, quite low-carbonated palate. An interesting piece of Horst on steroids!
