Very malty and with a presence of alcohol. Hopbitternes OK specksnreds (55), USA Apr 16, 2008 An all-time fave of mine. I guess I love a malty kick in the palate more than others. The four I had were of the 2007 vintage, with a lovely lace and an amber brown color. I wish I had reviewed this earlier, but since I still salivate for the Kaiser, I must of loved it. Bitter? What bitter? This about the malt, baby!! WallyWalrus (205), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 12, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a lovely copper color with a good eggshell white head. Aroma is sweet and spicy, with an aroma of caramel, apples, cloves, roasted malt, and syrupy hops. Taste is sweet and full with a cider-like crispness and flavor -- apples, roasted malt, spices, floral hops, and dark fruit make up the bulk of this beer, with a lingering finish containing a few hints of warming alcohol. An underappreciated gem. Elizavyeta (110), Minnesota, USA Apr 12, 2008 A deep, even sensual aroma with strong hints of cherry and toasted malt; this is an utterly gorgeous brew - somewhere between mahogany and siena.
The flavor itself is intensely fruity tasting almost like a strong cider but with a yeasty minerality. Apricot, plum wine, and wheat all combine to make this fantastically drinkable.
Definitely a sipper, have with a link of garlicy sausage and home-made sauerkraut. ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Apr 10, 2008 This beer took me by surprise. A lot of crazy fruitiness going on in there. It’s like some kind of tropical mango shake or sorbet. Oktoberfest style malts are in there (and complement the crazy fruits as well as can be done), you just have to search a bit. Almond comes out a fair amount in the flavor. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany Apr 9, 2008 Pours a very nice copper, with an undying off-white head. The aroma is fruity, sweet and pungent with a little bit of spice/floral complexity in the background. The flavor really caught me off guard at first, but the more I drink the more I like it. Very sweet and malty at first, then transitions into a bizarre, but increasingly pleasant fruit flavor, and then finishes with a nice lingering floral/almond bitterness. The palate is thick, oily and quite smooth. The alcohol is very nicely hidden in there. A challenging, but ultimately enjoyable brew. petermadsen (391), Vesterbronxxx, Denmark Apr 8, 2008 aroma: sweet malt and alcohol. flavour: alcohol, sweet malt and a sweet hoppy finish. not too great... KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Apr 7, 2008 Amber with huge off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with caramel notes. Sweet flavor with notes of ripe fruits, caramel, sweet malt and hops. Rather full bodied. Ends bitter.
