The Kaiser once said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world." If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we'd all be "sprechenden Deutsch!" We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest - gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent noble hops - then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest.

Pours a somewhat frosty looking amber gold with creamy white head that dissipates to a nice lacing. Aroma is definitely caramel and hops with bourbon undertones. Flavor is caramel/rum/bourbon mix (the liquor flavors are subtle but touch the palate). The sweetness is balanced by the hops. It is a good beer.

Bottle. [thank you, BelJohansen]
Pours hazy golden amber with a fine, creamy white head. Aroma is very hoppy, with just a slight touch of caramel. Fine, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is hoppy, soft, quite vinious. Not German at all, but still refreshing.

22 fl oz bottle, thanks to BelJohansen. Pours hazy orange with a lacing white head. Light woody and spiced aroma. Mild thyme note. Woody and spiced flavour. Dry woody and more solid spiced flavour following. Hoppy flavour into the finish. Nice but yet another terrible US interpretation of a German style beer.

Poured from a 22oz bomber (Bottled in 2007) and served in a shaker. This beer poured a clear, dark amber hue with a one-finger thick head of beige foam that lasted throughout the entire glass. A decent amount of thick lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of caramel, graham cracker, orange peel, and bread dough. The flavor consisted of citrus hops (orange and grapefruit), bread, caramel, and also some noticable aclohol. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Decent, but I’ll take a good, sessionable Oktoberfest over this any day.

Bottle@Home, 2006 vintage. Orange, grapefruit and grass aroma. Light hazy, amber color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, malty, fruity, bitter, grass, hint of dough and of course very floral. Soft mouthfeel. In between an IIPA and Märzen.

22 oz. bottle, from BevMo LaJolla, 2007 version. Pours a beautiful, clear and bright medium copper with a moderate sized head. Rich ripe fruits in the aroma, plum, figs, molasses and earth with alcohol detectable as well. Sweet and frity flavoer, molasses, prune, cedar bark, florals and brandy notes, pretty phenolic, bitter herbs and astringent in the finish, tainted by a wheaty metallic taste. Full body and gentle carbonation.

Tasting notes from 11/17/07 Copper pour with a nice off white head. Some nutmeg, hops, and a slight amount of prunes in the aroma. Sweet with an aftertaste of black olives. Rather odd. It seems a bit out of place for an Oktoberfest. Average.

Bottle from Canals. Coppery/orange pour with a sweet, spicy malty aroma. Brown sugar and alcohol taste it’s surprisingly one of the better Ocktoberfests.
