The Kaiser once said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world." If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we’d all be "sprechenden Deutsch!" We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest - gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent noble hops - then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest.

on tap at mad mex robinson two nights ago. not real happy with many high alky beers and same with this. darker brown yellow clear color. has a thin chunky head. sweet aroma and a big strong intial impact that certainly lets you know its impy. probably some attributes of barley wine in here. yes quite sweet almost too much co. rather rude at times. mouth coating on the finish. nothing octoberfest pleasant in this unless you wannah catch a buzz fast. burns a little going down the throat.

Smooth and bitter barley wine style ale. The hops seem tom be a dominant undertone with a good bitterness, but not much hops floral nose. I think this is a very good barley wine without too much of any one flavor, but a distinct package

Draft at rattle with streets and b dad. Pours a clear dark amber with no head, light off white lacing. Aroma is sweet dark fruits and maple. Mouthfeel is syrupy with notes of maple, raisins and prune.

Bomber. 2010 bottle. 9.73 % ABV. Pours hazy orange with an off-white large head that falls after a couple of minutes. Aroma is caramel corn; smells like an aged barleywine (uh oh, not what I wanted). Taste is bittersweet with a long bitter finish. I really wish I could have gotten a fresher bottle. What’s up with that, Click?

Batch 8 (August 2011). Pours rich, amber orange with fluffy yellow foam. Smells like maple, fall spices, bready, and some hoppiness. Tastes sweet with subtle bitterness backing it up and a hint of alcohol burn at the end. Full-bodied with a slick texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Avery The Kaiser finishes with some sweetness and burn.

Draft at Avery Taproom. The concept of an imperial Oktoberfest is interesting but I don’t think it quite works. The alcohol overpowers the delicate maltiness of the style. It’s all a bit too boozy. But every Avery beer I’ve had has been balanced and leaves lacing in the glass so there’s care there.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, batch 8, August 2011. Pours crystal clear golden orange color with a small dense khaki head with very nice retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap. Not much lacing clinging to the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisins, bread, sweet malt, molasses, apricot, figs, and a bit of booze. Some very nice and balanced aromas here with good strength. Taste of big caramel, bread, toasted malt, raisins, apricot, molasses, spices, and some bourbon. No noticeable bitterness on the finish as expected. Fairly dry finish, but some lingering sweet notes of caramel, bread, molasses, bourbon, and spices. Big sweetness here, but not cloying at all. Fantastic balance of all flavors. Alcohol is incredibly well hidden, only a slight warming on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel. Overall this is a truly outstanding imperial Oktoberfest. Great balance, flavor, and smoothness.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a clear amber with a very small white head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Taste is malt, caramel and dark fruit. Some alcohol comes through with a bit of hops. Too sweet perhaps.

From 22oz bottle - Why did I get this? Maybe because I trusted Avery to produce a Marzen I would finally like? I don’t know...this style sucks! I’ve only tried a few that I like, one being Ayinger’s October. Nice looking and comfortable mouthfeel, but that damn chemical / astringent quality. Just can’t get past it.

Poured in a snifter. Pours a really nice amber/copper color with a thin head which fades quickly. Aroma is sweet maltiness with apples light caramel. Mouthfeel is light and smooth with light carbonation. Flavors include caramel, banana, and smooth malty sweetness. For ten percent, I found this to be a smooth drink.
