The Kaiser once said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world." If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we'd all be "sprechenden Deutsch!" We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest - gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent noble hops - then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest.

22oz. Bomber. Rich, dark, coppery color with a finger width collar of foam. Gives off a malty scent, with a bit of caramel and some spicy noble hop aromas. Lots of bready character from the malts that have a dough flavored aftertaste. Hops are present in the mix and give the beer a kick of spicyness. Shows all the signs of a good Octoberfest with a crisp bite, a strong spice flavor and a heavy dose of malt. Body is medium, but relatively thick for the style with an average level of carbonation. Great job of masking the alcohol, not at all sweet and sugary like most lagers with high alcohol levels. Another impressive imperial release from Avery!

This is clearly a dopplebock; but whatever. Pours orange with some good lace. The aroma is caramel-y with some good alcohol and nice fruity notes. The flavor is sweet but not too much so with some good caramel and light nuttiness, the alcohol is warming and there is a nice complimentary cherry note in the background.

Pours clear copper color with off white head. Very sweet caramel aroma. Flavor is overly sweet and boozy in typical Avery fashion. Caramel, bread and some light hoppiness. Medium body with lively carbonation. A decent beer but not what I would reach for if I was in the mood for an Oktoberfest.

Poured clear and amber/dark orange from the 750ml bottle into a pint glass: Aroma of caramel and nutty malts, citrus, resin hops, raisins, and I swear some bubblegum. Drinkability: Perhaps what an Oktoberfest should taste like. Rebuy: Possibly. DG #134 on 10102009, DG.

22oz. 2009 bottle. Pours a medium copper with reddish hue. Aroma of red licorice, bubble gum, molasses and malt. Intense sweet and malty initial taste. Malty and creamy finish on the back of the tongue. Quite complex and good.

A damn good beer. Nose is very malty, almost like a sweet bread. Palate is full bodied and malty.

Bottle, 2009 bottling. Pours a lovely, clear, orange-copper body with off-white foam. Aroma of sugar, candy, caramel malts, bread, and maybe a hint of grapefruit hops. Flavor is more of the same with the hops slightly more pronounced. Medium to heavy body with a almost syrupy texture. Slightly sticky and cloying on the palate. Lightly carbonated. Overall, it’s decent but the syrupy mouthfeel gets to be too much after awhile.
