The Kaiser once said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world." If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we'd all be "sprechenden Deutsch!" We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest - gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent noble hops - then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest.

2008 version. Pours a light copper color with a big off white head and a lot of carbonation. Nose is blank, not much in the way of malt at all. A little nut and caramel makes it way through as it warms. Definite round malty flavor. Spice, caramel and a big touch of alcohol. It was made the way they wanted it and is well made. I will stick with Ayinger when I want an Oktoberfest. Too overdone for this style.

Bomber from local store. The smell of this beer is not all that appealing unless you like the scent of dish water -- that’s what it reminds me of. The color is a nice dark amber color with slight lacing and little head. The beer has a buttery texture and has hints of malt and caramel. I do notice a slight hoppy aftertaste, but nothing that other reviewers are saying. This can be due to my love of high IBU IPAs. Overall it is a good beer and goes well with the fall season.

Bottle courtesy of angrypirate06. Clear orange color. Scent has nothing of a marzen. Slight butter but mostly weak malts. Taste smooths out considerably. Some alcohol on the taste. Interesting but just decent.

On tap at the Peekskill Brewery. Pours a just clear orange with a medium thick browned beige head. Honey, nice malt and a light spice. Malty, little banana. Nice light bitter finish, without too much graininess, and just a touch of banana.

Bottle ($8) from La Bodega in Riverside.. Pours copper with a off white head... Aroma is very sweet with citrus, spice and alcohol. Couldn’t really pick up that distinct Oktoberfest smell. Flavor is kinda weird with some spiciness and just this long lingering metallic note.. A tad on the thick side for me... I love Avery’s idea of making a imperial but this one just didn’t pan out for me.. It just seems like the more I drink the less I like this one.

22 oz 2009 offering in Dogfish Head shaped pint. Burnt orange with light carbonation, nice clarity, and a thin off-white head that leaves light lacing. Bready and iced tea aromas. Palate is fizzy with a sticky finish. Characteristically malty flavor with a sweet aftertaste. Minimal hints of spices and sour fruit. A mild hop bitterness and light alcohol burn show up as it warms. A nice Oktoberfest that hides its ABV well in both the nose and flavor. I look forward to this every year.

Clear, deep amber color with a creamy bright white head. Rich, malty aroma with some sweet citrus notes and a typical Oktoberfest spicyness. Flavor starts out really hoppy, which was a tad unexpected, then fades to a lingering malty aftertaste. Extremely soft on the palate. I really liked the "American" touches on this typical German style.

Intense, hoppy, marzen. Marzen is not pronounced. Hops are. Strong alcohol finish.
