Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2006 ’06 22oz bottle- An orangy amber body with a faint haze and a white head that dissipated quickly. Has an aroma of alcohol and a faint maltiness. Taste of malt and a lot of alcohol with a caramel malt mix in the middle. The alcohol taste is on the back end. Not bad but was expecting something different. maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 25, 2006 2005 bomber. Murky, opaque russett; thick, creamy beige head. Completely inappropriate nose: soapy and caramelly, with notes of artificial chocolate syrup and cherry cola. Oxidized? Swiss cheesey, woody, and chocolately flavor. WTF? Intensely dry finish with offensive charcoal-y rough bitterness. Medium palate. Aftertaste is muddy, phenolic, and harsh as broken glass. Like chewing on a burnt circuit board. Absurdly unbalanced, utterly crappy. Hard to imagine that even without flaws, this could ever be called an oktoberfest. Something was very wrong with this beer when it went into the bottle. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 25, 2006 Updated: Sep 26, 2006Clear, dark copper, with a sturdy eggshell head. Spicy, caramelly aroma. Intense malty sweetness at first, followed by a crisp, almost but not quite sour hop bite. On tap at Barley’s, Asheville. starfireming (309), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2006 Clear deep yellow, frothy head that dies quickly. Faint malt aroma. Taste is intense malt. Perfectly adequate palate. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 24, 2006 Good golden red body with a nice white ehad. Slight soap aroma, some honey with wheat. Semi-dry and sweet ending. Overall, not bad though I’ve found better beers to have for Oktoberfest. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Sep 23, 2006 2006 bottle. Clear auburn pour with a big fluffy head. Interesting aroma, nutty and sharp, with gin botanicals/juniper, spice, vodka. Similar flavor, with very spicy hops, strong caramel, almond, amaretto. Really not that malty for 9%, and very well balanced, not to mention quite unique. jayme9874 (756), Hamburg, New York, USA Sep 23, 2006 2006 bottle. A light amber orange. Thin but persistent head and lace. Nose of sweet malts which are caramelly and a bit toasty. Spicy hops noticable as well as an alcohol presence. Medium-full body, malty as hell, lots of lingering hop spice, alcohol warmth and a bit of flavor that lingers in finish a bit. Lots of flavor and a nice kick. Its good and damn drinkable but just doesnt blow my doors off for some reason which was suprising seeing I though this was right up my alley. Will revisit to see if I was in a pissy mood or something. jmcguire1969 (149), Lafayette, Colorado, USA Sep 23, 2006 This is a big bitch...can you say kaiser soze. This one smells good. Huge malt a little too much alcahol burn...I think Avery kicked this one up a notch this year...I don’t recall it being a 9’er...ABV=9.1 on the 2006 batch. Adam likes brewing big examples of different styles...if that makes any sense. AIGHT!
