maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 17, 2006 Clear red body with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and light spice aroma. Sweet caramel and spice flavor. pantani (1895), Salinas, California, USA Sep 17, 2006 Nice Amber to light orange hue with no head. Aroma is a bit of citrus, wheat, alcohol is there also. Taste is a bit of caramel along with honey, wheat, and a touch of alcohol. Alcohol is well covered. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Sep 17, 2006 22 oz. bottle on 9/13/06. Pours a clear amber with a medium off white head. Smells toasty and grainy - a ncie malt dominated aroma. Rich and smooth with a medium/full body and very light carbonation. Just a bit of spicy bitterness helps offset a big caramel malt sweetness. Alcohol was never a prominent feature. Quite enjoyable and drinkable. tobias (154), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Sep 16, 2006 22 oz bottle 2006 bottle: beautiful clear copper color with off white head. matly aroma with nice fruity caramel notes. big maly caramel flavors. sweet and fruity. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Sep 14, 2006 Updated: Sep 28, 2007Rerate 2007: Oh boy, I’m getting a bad smell from this years version. Medicinal and artificial sugar. Maybe some dietcytal notes as well. I’m sorry Avery, but this is undrinkable. Very disappointed. Last years version was a little sugary, but this is a drain pour. Based on this experience, I can’t say I’ll be doing the Kaiser experiment any longer.
Original Rating 2006: I have found Avery brews to be very hit and miss. Poured this from a 22 oz. bomber. Very sweet malty backbone and true to the style. A good octoberfest impression. Notes of apricot, butterscotch, caramel. I would say this is one of Avery’s better offerings. The sweetness slightly detracts from the beer being world class.

I am no expert on Oktoberfests so I shouldn’t say anything bad but can say that since this style is so delicate, when you put 9% ethanol in there you can taste it. I couldn’t ignore the alchohol warming - it was intense. Neat beer for novelty but not balanced and I wouldn’t buy this again - although I am happy I gave it a try. JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Sep 9, 2006 Updated: Sep 26, 2007Rerate. Odd hop aroma that doesn’t fit very well with the style, but it doesn’t smell bad. Flavor is sweet, really, really sweet, but there is also a ton of alcohol in t here, and in my opinion, so much so that it damages the quality and negatively impacts the flavor. Score lowered from previous tasting. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 31, 2006 2005 Bottle. One year old. Clear amber color with creamy white wisps. Aroma is actually kinda fruity, a little alcoholic and beautifully malty. The flavor is much better than I expected. A little spicy a little alcoholic. Big fully body. A heck on an octoberfest.
