hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Aug 31, 2006 bottle. Brown/amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is hoppy, sweet malts/caramel, raisins/plums and alcohol. Taste is about the same, strong alcohol in the finish. could have used some more age I think. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Aug 4, 2006 2005 bottle. Poured a dark amber with tannish head. Smells raisiny and sweet. Alcohol is there but not overpowering taste-wise. Hops in the taste too, and well balanced with spicyness. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 25, 2006 Very boozy, with lots of malt. The alcohol is not well diguised. Not terrible but not my favorite. Radek Kliber (3926), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Jul 24, 2006 9.3% 2004. Pours amber dark with creamy tan , large head. Rich , full aroma with massive amout of malt that was gently touched by bitter hops . Rich , juicy malts neatly submerged in this alcoholi, potent brew . Big lager, surley. Sipper , but good sipper . mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 18, 2006 Bottle. 2004 vintage. Pours a cloudy brown-orange body with a medium-sized fluffy white head receding to slight bubbles. The aroma has oranges, fruity apricot hops, bread, and caramel. The alcohol is around right from the beginning as one might expect with Avery stuff; but in this case it’s not overwhelming. Interestingly bitter with well balanced bread caramel sweetness. Light carbonation. Certainly an interesting take on the style and definitely has some parallels with the American Strong classification. A solid sipper. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Jul 17, 2006 West coast hoppy nose, some malt, deep orange, small custard head. Taste has a big hops start, a fine malt backbone. Full bodied, quite bitter, in fact the hoppiest of the style I’ve tried. Extremely good beer, yet it doesn’t suit the style? Thanks very much mds. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Jun 25, 2006 another found rating. this was quite a good oktoberfest. had an amber appearance with some carmel malt, munich malt, some spice, and some clove aroma. the flavor was also clove with some pennies, carmel, perfume, and just a hint of roasted malt in addition to the munich and carmel.
