gferd (99), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 21, 2006 Nice aroma of caramel, toffee, fruit and some citrusy hops. Pours a real dark hazy amber with an off-white head with pretty good retention. Great lacing. Very malty. Lots of caramel, brown sugar, and fruit. Definitely a spicey finish with just barely an alcohol presence. Hops linger in the background and really blend mix well. Somewhat bock-like. An excellent Oktoberfest. Probably the best I’ve had. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 15, 2006 "Ah well they tried. Poured a amber color with okay head but didn’t lace very well at all. Aroma was of caramel. Flavor was of caramel as well some spices and way to sweet. This one missed the mark, although i don’t have much to compare it to."
eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 12, 2006 Pours a caramel orange amber color with a very nice initial head that sat around for a while but didn’t lace great. The aroma was of caramel and toasty notes. The flavor had a lot going on, but it wasn’t all that great. Caramel, tea bags, light spices, toasty/bready notes, and generally sweet. Mouthfeel was a bit sticky, although the alcohol wasn’t too strong. Ah, I’m not a huge fan of this one, but give ’em props for trying to expand the style. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA May 13, 2006 Aroma is rich with malt and hops, with an almost orange scent. Very heavy, with a good balance of hops and malt. A tad sweet for my tastes. But, overall not bad and quite a good deal. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA May 8, 2006 I believe this was a 2005 bottle. Pours a crystal clear amber- almost like a new shiny copper kettle. Thin and lasting head- some lace. Aroma is sticky sweet with lots of light munich, melanoiden, and light crystal malts- very low on the herbal hops- almost none in fact- jsut pure malty sweetness. Flavor is much the same with mostly malt, and a touch of hop bitterness in the end to keep from getting cloying. I actually expected this beer to be very malty sweet and cloying- thus I wouldnt like it, but turns out I did like this stuff quite a bit and am glad I saved a bottle to age for a bit. This should be nice in another year. Very much like a malty sweet barleywine as others have noted. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA May 3, 2006 bottle, at Dickinsonbeer’s pre-TAP gathering. bright copper color, aroma is sweet syrupy malt like a barley wine. flavor is also strong malty sweet like a barley wine. tjthresh (1748), Greenfield, Indiana, USA May 2, 2006 2004 bottle from BBB63. Dark copper with some great orange highlights. A creamy biege head. Tons of beautiful, resinous, sticky belgian lace. Crazy aroma. Ridiculous amounts of toffee, caramelized sugar, spicey, and floral aromas. A very long drawn out drink. It starts off quite caramelly, mapley sweet, crosses the tongue, then hits you with some rather intense bitterness, and finishes with a soft alcohol burn. Ahhhh. Full bodied and sticky in the mouth, this beer is very under rated. Thanks a million for this treat Mike. I will do my best to repay you. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA May 2, 2006 2005. Nose of spice, berries, raisins, and oats. Pours a clear copper. The large stiff
creamy off white head is fully lasting with decent lace. Alcohol sweetness greets the
tongue immediately. The immense fruity bouquet dances about the palate. However, the
alcohol and malt are forced to duel with a strong hops presence for the drinkers’ attention.
The finish is floral spicy hops and becomes much more pronounced as the brew warms.
The full creamy body is uber soft.
