Sledge Jr (2721), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Dec 15, 2005 2005 vintage. In the bomber bottle. I knew this had to be good because they put aluminum foil over the top of the bottle, right? This is a MONSTER. It is a märzen in name only. Maybe if I took an entire barrel of Spaten Oktoberfest and vacuum evaporated it to 22 ounces while adding a brick of hop pellets, I might end up with this lager. Yes, the ethanol is strong and mean, but what you should really love about this beer is the complete palate. Beers just don’t get much thicker. You could hide strychnine in here with all this malt masking power. You don’t really drink this, you just tear off your sips using your incisors. I just can’t imagine the crazy people who can and do get this on tap. Life is good.
VTHopHead (709), Barre, Vermont, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bomber - Pours a clear reddish amber in color with almost no head... little carbonation. Aroma is is quite malty (caramel, brown sugar), fruity (apples?) and flowery hops. Flavor is also quite sweet (a bit more than I like) with a nicely balanced hop bitterness, particularly at the end. Alcohol, not surprisingly, is more apparent than necessary, but I like its brain-numbing effects (drink this one SLOW). Not very true to an Oktoberfest-style beer, but a very good beer none-the-less. Well worth seeking out again. cbeers21 (456), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Nice heady pour. Deep fruits on the nose with a good shot of caramel sugary maltyness. Pretty quenching and good bouncy mouthfeel. Lightly spiced, while sweet, beer and balanced well. A good, sturdy example of the style and one whose drinkability belies its strength. daknole (1131), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 21, 2008 Nice octoberfest beer. malty aroma and really nice flavor. Malty, yeasty and a bit sweet. cheers!! Burrobuns (75), Columbia, Missouri, USA Nov 20, 2008 2007 bomber. Not sure why anyone is complaining. Probably one of if not the best Oktoberfest I have had. I absolutely loved it. Very malty, spicy, butty, alcohol interwoven but not overpowering. I need to go find a few more bottles of this stuff. rkuhnel (1199), Eureka, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 From a bomber this poured a clear amber to orange color with a fat long lasting off-white head and very sticky lacing. Nose of floral hops. Mouthfeel is almost sticky. Flavor is of ripe fruit and the finish is malty and shows the alcohol. It is a little hard to get the last few sips down.
