As much as I love Ayinger and even more in the off season (approaching brew time in March for Marzens), this Imperial is pipe-hitting! Rich body balanced with appropriate hops and yeast... slight caramel context. Hell Yeah! sneagrams3 (1764), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Spiraling white head. Aromas of caramel and cookies. Cooked candy sugar and slight spices. Vanilla and cirtus with a slight burn in the nose. Full bodied with a smooth malt flavor and big kick of juice. Sugary bready sweet. Sticky hops in the finish. Big beer, but delicious! TheEvilTwin (13), Texas, USA

Smells toasty and grainy - a ncie malt dominated aroma. Rich and smooth with a medium/full body and very light carbonation. Just a bit of spicy bitterness helps offset a big caramel malt sweetness. Alcohol was never a prominent feature. Quite enjoyable and drinkable. zamco17 (134), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 6, 2006 2006 22 oz Bomber, 9.1% ABV. Crystal clear copper color with fluffy off white head. Striking appearance. Strong spicy hop aroma with just a hint of sweet and nutty malts. The flavor hits up front with a load of noble hop spicy flavor and bitterness and some sweet malts. As the taste experience progresses the hops seem to recede and the sweet maltiness builds. The hops are still the main flavor component right to the end. Nice rich mouth feel with some sense of the ABV. This beer may need some more cellaring to peak and bring out more of the malt flavors that are now playing second fiddle to the hops. riversideAK (2808), Shoreline, Washington, USA

Light amber color with a small white head. Super sweet aroma. I get caramel malts, some fruit, perhaps bananas, and some toasted nuts. Alcohol in nose too. Syrupy sweet. A little vinegar? Sour notes. Sweet fruit - fruit punch or banana - I cant decide. Sweet toasted caramel malts. Alcohol in the finish. Actually, for how heavy and sweet this is, I find it relatively easy to drink. It does have a nice light bitter finish, and the vinegar/sour notes were really only around during the first sip. You know what? I think I really actually enjoy this one... | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Oct 29, 2006 One of the best looking beers I have seen. Red/copper/amber colorwith very thin head. Malty, earthy, fruity aroma. The big maltiness reminded me of an Oktoberfest beer, but the alcohol made me think I was drinking a barleywine. The flavor was big -- fruity sweet alcohol with huge malts and a bit of hop bite in the background. Very interesting and intoxicating brew. My bottle listed it as 9.3%ABV.
