Elizavyeta (101), Minnesota, USA Apr 12, 2008 A deep, even sensual aroma with strong hints of cherry and toasted malt; this is an utterly gorgeous brew - somewhere between mahogany and siena.
The flavor itself is intensely fruity tasting almost like a strong cider but with a yeasty minerality. Apricot, plum wine, and wheat all combine to make this fantastically drinkable.
Definitely a sipper, have with a link of garlicy sausage and home-made sauerkraut.
MrBunn (826), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bomber (2008). Pours a fairly pure amber with a big and fluffy tan head. Aromas are sweet and fruity (smells almost like pear juice). Flavor has that sweet, tree-ripe pear flavor throughout with highlights of some alcoholic bite and some honey/butterscotch malt. Something seems a little out of whack here, with some ragged edges: a little bit of astringent alcohol at times, sweetness bordering on cloying, a peppery spiciness that starts to assert itself mid palate and then vanishes bringing you back to sweet frutiness. I’m wondering if a bit of aging might remedy some of these abrupt quirks. Hophead22 (134), Redlands, California, USA Aug 17, 2008 22oz bomber. poured a nice dark gold with a good looking white head. Sweet malty aroma. Can taste the alcohol in this, big and malty, very imperial. moelikebeer (112), New Brighton, Minnesota, USA Aug 8, 2008 2008 bottle. Clear amber pour with a small head. Sweet aroma of malt, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavor with plenty of spice and the alcohol really coming through in the finish. Lots going on in the flavor; just not terribly pleasing. tonyd56 (4), USA does not count Aug 4, 2008 2008 bottle. Amber color, fruity and alcohol aroma. Taste is very sweet with alcohol. Hop flavor pretty subdued. Acknud (584), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Jul 25, 2008 Very amber/orange with a small white head. Aroma of caramel malt, cloves and alcohol. Taste is a nicely balanced sweet malt with a citrus hop.
