ajm (903), Los Angeles, California, USA Jun 29, 2009 Tap at Bistro. Smells of red apple, alcohol, sweet hops and sugary malt. Flavored the same though the hops shine through more. Tastes kind of typical as far as DIPAs go. DerWeg (750), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 27, 2009 Hops and alcohol prickle the nose while surveying this pale monster. Thick old-gold clear pour with light gold highlights supports a creamy head that settles to just a ring. Fruity grassy and piney hops express good aroma, some lemon rind centennial hops. Taste really nice rich fruity sweet malts, piney bitter hops, citrus aroma and pith. Creamy feel and warming alcohol. And that’s before I cool it down a bit more... then the centennial dry citrus comes up a bit, the alcohol hides a little, and the creaminess is really astounding. Its the carbonation against the viscosity, combined with the alcohol and the careful shaping of the hop profile. Good stuff. stchloe (477), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 22, 2009 Updated: Jun 30, 2009Whoa, whoa, whoa, like whoa. I may be a girl but I like my beers bitter as my heart, this is ridiculous. Amazingly good, just a complex hop profile that lasts for a long time. Starts with a citrus profile but eases into a pine and ends with resin. scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Jun 20, 2009 Fresh sweet aromatic sticky resiny hop aroma. So that’s good. Dark gold, frothy soapy head. Incredibly easy to drink in spite of the IBUs and ABV. The strong malt base doesn’t distract from or dominate the hops. Where others are syrupy and leave a sticky finish, this beer finishes clean and very pleasantly bitter. loweredsixth (942), Fresno, California, USA Jun 14, 2009 Glowing amber color with a large, fluffy of-white head. The aroma bursts out with citrusy goodness...grapefruit and orange. The flavor was intense...plenty of citrus bitterness, slight breadiness, pine and other wood, and some alcohol bite. The feel was sticky (not too much) with a definite crispiness. There was a suprising long, wet finish for such a bitter beer. You taste this thing for a long time after drinking it. Very nice! alagnak (301), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jun 13, 2009 On tap @ The Batch 10 Release Party @ Avery (so - as fresh as is humanly possible). I could smell it from the parking lot (no exaggeration) as we walked up to the tent where they were tapping for the party. Sticky, resinous grapefruit, cannabis and hints of malt. Taste is more of the sticky hops and tons of grapefruit and pine. FInishes boozy and a a little sweet. Mouthfeel is a little too oily, imo. I don’t know - something just seems missing. lumpsowers (235), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Jun 11, 2009 Cloudy amber pour, low head, no lace. Bready hoppy aroma. Yikes, serious hops and alcohol with lots of sugary fruitiness. Very thick and phlegmy, this was kind of a struggle to drink.
FlyingSwine (169), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jun 10, 2009 Pours a dark staw, with a nice off-white head. Smells like my brother in-law’s basement...cat urine. Flavor is spicy and earthy with pungent hops and burnt malt. Palate was fairly heavy and slightly slick. This isn’t one of my favorite styles, and this was no execption.
