Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

On tap @ Fathers Office. Aroma is of grapefruit, citrus, hops. Tastes of fresh hops, pine, grapefruit, and the alcohol is very well hidden. Only notes can be detected. This is another one of my favorite IIPA’s.

Pours a gorgeous orange color with a thin white head. Aroma is like a Christmas tree that has Grapefruit ornaments. Lots of hop character but with a solid malt backbone. Almost perfectly balanced. The hops just keep coming, but never feel like they’re punching you in the teeth. This is a fantastic Double IPA.

on tap @Capones–pours a white head and gold color. Aroma is resin. Taste is resin hops-some bitter, some syrupy, light medium malt. Dry finish.

On tap at Fries. Citrusy grapefruit hops reign supreme in the aroma of this beer! It pours a thick orange-gold with a bit of off white head. The flavor matches the aroma, huge citrusy American hops with sweet malt background. The mouthfeel is fairly thick, perfect for an imperial IPA. Overall, very good, but a bit less complex than the highest ranked IIPAs.

22 oz. bomber, Batch 9 Feb 2009. Thick head lasting throughout the pint. Clear copper color with constant trickles of carbonation. Distinct citrus aroma with undertones of pine. Amalgam of both hops and citrus in taste, which resolves into a hoppy, better finish. And in the tradition of colorado brews, a crisp finish. One of my favourites.

Clear red, tall lasting head. Musty smell with a light touch of hops. Almost catty. Heavy presence of hops on the taste, both sweet and bitter. Aftertaste is sweeter than expected, and that lingers more so than the bitterness. Not bad, but certainly not the best of the style.

One of the best Imperial IPAs I have ever tasted, and the I2PA has been one of the toughest styles for me to enjoy. Served cold from bottle. Poured a nice amber color with a big off-white head. Aroma is unbelievably hoppy. Flavor is bitter but balanced well with sweet malts. Great medium body, good carbonation, and a fantastic hop finish. Would highly recommend, and will be drinking again soon...

22oz’er. Aroma of resinous hops; floral, grapefruit, and pine. Clear amber with a big frothy off white head that left a nice lace. Bitter flavor of course due to the massive amount of hops, balanced well with a light sweet malt taste. Medium bodied, thick and sticky mouth feel, soft carbonation, with a long bitter finish. This is a great Imperial IPA, the alcohol is hidden within the beer and the bitterness is smoothed out very well by the malt.
