Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Pours a cloudy orange, thin white foam. Aroma of HOPS, HOPS, and HOPS. Taste of HOPS but also some nice fruity tones. This is wonderful stuff, reminds me of Bells Hopslam quite a bit.

Bottled 2/09, batch 9. Pours a 1 finger off white head. Golden brown hazy color. Nose is very strong floral hops. Nice taste of floral hops up front, with some nice caramalized malts and toffee as well. Creamy mouth feel. Loved this DIPA, maybe I’m just not used to fresh DIPAs in Texas.

Bronze pour with a nice, healthy two finger off-white head. Acceptable retention & lacing. Citrus aroma of grapefruit and a hint of pineapple, pine needles, and caramel. Smooth, sweet, malty mouthfeel initially which eventually leads to the hops. Medium low carbonation. Nice bitter finish with implementation of an effective hop profile, alcohol is mostly undetectable. Nicely balanced IIPA.

Consumed at 45 degrees. Pours with an excellent head for such an uberly hopped beverage. An overflowing amount of pine and malt come through in the drink. It has a nice hanging bitterness with a subtle sweetness. A very enjoyable beer, and one worth trying for the IIPA fan.

On cask at Deep Ellum. Fruity aroma, passion fruit. Lighter hops that allow the fruit flavor to come through. Very nice IPA

22oz bottle. Dark gold pour with a very big white head. Mmm, hoppy, piney goodness. Smooth hop flavor, nicely balanced, and a little sweet. Very good DIPA
