Aroma actually kind of reminds one of marijuana, with some grapefruit hop thrown in. Palate is a little thicker than I would prefer from an IPA, but not terrible. Big grapefruit and pine hop taste with a caramel malt backdrop. Not a bad beer by any means, but I’d been too hyped up for this one I think. ezyeric (7), Comstock Park, Michigan, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Aroma: Typical deep citrus of a double.
Appearance: darker orange/bown
Flavor: Very complex, more malty tham most IPA’s, citrus hits early, then malty and caramel flavors kick in, hops hit hard after and tries to high the alcohol but it comes through.
Palate: Felt thick , especially as it warmed.
Very good double has more body than most I prefer but this makes it unique.

Pours a hazy orangish amber with a large off-white head. It recedes slowly leaving lots of lacing.
The aroma is heavy on the citrus hops up front, especially grapefruit but has a very healthy malt profile to balance it out in the nose.
The taste doesn’t stray too far from the aroma with lots of citrus hops up front before the big caramel malt base that really hold up the hefty hop profile well. The finish has plenty of hop bitterness.
The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied with decent carbonation and very, very sticky with hop juice.
This is a big flavorful DIPA that has both the hops and the malts really ramped up. It’s not the best melding of those two I’ve seen but it’s pretty tasty. FlssmrBrewAlum (1114), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2009 22 oz bottle that has been in the old refridgerated portion of my cellar for awhile now. I really need to catch up on this stuff. From Binny’s (Orland Park, IL), I believe. Pours a cloudy somber amber, darker, with eggshell white big bubbly head that sticks around. Aromas are heavy on citrusy hops: grapefruit, lemon zest, florals, and a dollop of pine. This is complimented by a strong carmel malt backbone that is sweet and clearly present for balance. Initial is fairly bitter, a bit of a pucker, but mellowed with age. Grapefruit, lemon, and touches of resinous pine balance a very apparent carmel and toffee malt backbone, sweet and trying to balance. Too sweet for me. Past it’s prime, but it has kept quite well despite the fact. Would like to try a very fresh bottle this early summer. Finishes with light bitterness and sweet carmel malts on the aftertaste. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2009 a- pours a clear orange/copper hue with 3-fingers of creamy white head that is mostly diminishing leaving thick lacing on the glass
s- WOW! Nose is of super-strong piney hops, tones of citrus fruits, sweet malt, and grassy earth, stiff alcohol presence in the background
t- Initial flavor is smooth and strong pine resin that soon warms to sweet citrus flavors and a peppery alcohol presence that dominates the finish
m- very full-bodied with lively carbonation
d- This is a hop-dominated ale that lives up to the DIPA billing, great flavor and aroma, but the abv is not very well masked and I don’t think I could finish more than one bomber if I wanted to be coherent the next morning xroomie (6), Denmark does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/20 | Feb 7, 2009 Damn this is good. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Aroma: There is unquestionably a lot going on this glass. It’s one I’ve had to smell multiple times to get my head around. Some of the characteristics aren’t immediately noticeable. Of those that are: deep hops, fresh honeycomb, and a caramelized orange. There is also something very familiar in the nose that I can’t quite uncover. As it warms, it almost dwarfs into something completely different, however the intensely floral honey notes stay with it the whole time. Appearance: It pours a nice clear burnt orange color and has an average-sized head that hangs out for a short period of time. You’ll want to drink this one out of a tulip so you can constantly refresh the head. Flavor: With an IBU rating of 102, it’s obviously bitter, but I don’t find it to be too over the top. The burnt orange honey components are the most immediate flavors. As it warms, the beer almost tastes salty even though there is definitely a lot of sweetness here. Palate: Immediately hits the tongue and makes it sing. The beer is buttery and smooth. It hangs on for a good while and can still be tasted a while after finishing. Overall Impression: Not a bad beer, but certainly one I won’t go out of my way for again. I will suggest not letting this one get too warm. If you can stay within the 50-55 degree range, this is an enjoyable IPA. Once you get over 55 degrees, the flavors become a little too intense for the long haul. Perhaps the best thing would’ve been to share this one with friends because a whole bottle is bit overwhelming. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA
