Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

22oz bottle. Pours golden copper with a thin white head. Aroma of citrus and floral hops. Not as much hop intensity as most other Imperial IPAs. High alcohol is well disguised. Nice unique flavor overall. Thanks again Dad!

650 mL bottle, aged 9 months. Translucent copper brown with a thick film of head. The aroma is outstanding, with lots of C hops and sweet caramel malt. Flavour is pretty simple, but in a good way. Again, loads of pine/floral/cirtus from the hops over a basic, but prominent enough malt backbone. Alcohol is there, but doesn’t get in the way. Bitter from start to finish. Nice beer.

Murky orange color, tan head. Citrus hoppy scent. Citrus, bitter, hoppy taste with alcohol. Smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness.

Pours a cloudy orangish-gold with a thin white head. The aroma has a grssy-hops smell with floral under tones. It also has a hint of citrus, maybe lemmon coming through the most. What comes out in the flavor is more of the citrusy hops and a bit of caramelized malts. It finish with a nice bitternice, exactly what I expect out of an Imperial IPA. This beer was awesome and I will continue to drink it on a regular basis.

Pours cloudy dark golden with small white head. Floral hop aroma, you know its guna be good just by smeeling it. Highly hopped while still having a strong malt backbone. Pretty thick, goes down slow and leaves a longlasting aftertaste of hop bitterness. Strong, keeps me warm any time of year!!

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber color - almost orange - extremely small white head. Aroma is citrus and floral hops - small caramel malt flavor to keep the beer moderately balanced. The beer hides its alcohol quite well, but it quickly creeps up. Extremely crisp and clean finish. For a hop lover.

Bottle at Ørsted. Tasted at a pub crawl with local dept. of Danish Beer enthusiasts. At the point of the day I was too influenced by alcohol to write anything except 5 numbers, that is my rating above. But I loved it.
