Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

bottled may 2007, so over a year old. still plenty of citrus and grapefruit hops in the nose. really good nose. slight smell of malt. appearance is a hazy light amber. flavor is goooood. nice balance of hops and malt. I would never guess this is over 100 IBU or 10%. VERY NICE....

Bomber courtesy of Maniac. Big hop aroma of resiny citrusy hops with some nice carmelized malts and orange blossoms. Amber orange with small white head. Flavor of of piney citrusy hops with moderate hop bitterness and nice supporting pale malt sweetness. Finish is relatively dry with oranges and hoppy bitterness. Nicely balanced and not overlly bitter. Alchohol is there but sneaky. Excellent beer.

The best IPA I’ve ever had. Great slightly fruity flavor that is extremely smooth. The Maharaja hits you really hard with taste, alcohol content, and price (sadly).

Bottle from Mr. G’s in Plano, TX. Pours a nice clear amber with nice beige head. Aroma is very fruity. Flavor is a nice caramel malt with slight grapefruit tange, fruity, with nice hoppy bitter. Has a full body with medium carbonation. This is a nice warming beer.

Bottle; poured a clear amber-copper with a small, compact off white head. Aroma was really nice; juicy grapefruit predominantly with a hint of caramel malt. A touch of creaminess on the palate. Solid amount of bitterness in the finish for the style; bitterness hangs around for a bit. Flavor was a blend of pine and grapefruit, with only the faintest hint of sugar and sweet caramel. Really tasty and close to being elite for me.

Slightly hazy dark amber pour with a small foamy tan head. Lots of grapefruit peel hoppiness in the aroma, with some pine and caramel malt. Flavor is similar, with the grapefruit dominating the other flavors. Very good DIPA.

22oz bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a hazy dark copper color with a thin white-tan head that settles slowly and laces the glass slightly. Aroma is heavily of citrus and grapefruit, hops, pine with slight sweet malt notes as well. Flavor is much the same as the nose: heavy notes of grapefruit, ripe citrus, some bready yeast, and sweet malt. Medium-body with a hoppy and bitter lingering finish.
