Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Possibly one of my favorites. I wish it was year round. Deep Orange in color and intense aroma, you can smell the hops from across the room (exageration). But great citrus pine flavor and still a very clean crisp finish. Very well done.

Bomber- 2008 batch. Nice orange/amber color, small white head. Aroma is a blast of hop flowers and some pine. Big mouthfeel, Big on the hops....malts, what are those? Imperial IPA for sure. Alcohol nicely hidden. Good stuff here!

Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Medium amber with a white head. Nose of juicy, pungent hops, mainly grapefruit and pine, with some powdered sugar and caramel malt in the background. Flavor is again sticky, juicy hops-- grapefruit, juicy fruit, orange and lemon citrus, and earthy, piney hops underneath to bitter things up nicely. Creamy, full mouthfeel, and the alcohol is dangerously hidden (I had no idea it was 10+ abv!). Finishes long and sticky with hops residue. This is precisely what I want in an IPA-- over the top, for sure, but why not? We only live once. Great stuff!

You want hoppy, then this is the beer. Orange/golden, hoppy comes with first sip, then malt kicks in. Had a little floral taste and fruits. Mouthfeel on palate is thick.

Batch8/5-08.Tasted 6/08. Amber to copper body with off white head. Aroma of very spicy hops. (Tons of it.) Taste..Malt, fruit, grapefruit. Medium chew. Nice mild burn for 10.2% abv. Lemon. There is so much malt and hops..that malt hits you then hops, then malt again then hops. The varieties take turns I guess. Quite good. Will buy again for sure.

This draft had a strong citrus aroma! It is a full flavored Double IPA that is very lively on the palate notably citrus and lemon. There is a lot of complexity with a number of flavors The finish is dry and bitter with just a hint of caramel.

draft. pours hazy orange amber, nice lacy head. citrus hops and malt aroma. thick and exceptionally smooth. moderate bitter and high alcohol is cushioned by fantastic malty palate and well balanced lemon and floral hop flavors. they hit the iipa spot on. tasty.
