Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Editor's Note: the 2007 version was 9.78%.

Ive been looking forward to this! Nice cloudy orange.....Thought the smell is a touch odd. Definate floral and citrus, especially oranges, but also cat piss. a little different.....maybe its just me. but a wonderful flavor. HUGE citrus flavor! its all about the orange and then grapefruit! WOW! and so think and an awesome bite at the end. The alcohol is hidden so well!!!!! Definatley one of my favorites! The only thing holding this back is the aroma which wasnt horrible.

Pours hazy dark orange with a frothy beige head. Love the aroma on this one, Lots of fresh pine and citrus hops. A gracious sweet malt base for lots of salty piney hops. Some grapefruit and lime as well. Lots of bitter resin. Medium full body thats pretty sticky and has smooth but sparkly carbonation.

Sampled at Old Chicago in Boulder. Pour was cloudy tan with a decent pinkie size head. Hoppiness was all over this beer, in the scent and in the taste. A very very nice brew.

Love how this beer lingers with hints of citrus and huge malty roasts. Paired with clams and this kid has reached total consciousness.

Bomber. Pours a nice hazy orange with white head. Aroma is a resinous piney hops with a touch of malty sweetness. The flavor is a little bit less harsh than most beers that I’ve had with this type of hop character, and there’s a lot of malt body to provide some balance.

22 oz bottle, batch 7, 2/08. Hazy orange brown with a dense, off-white head that leaves copious lace. Nose is pink grapefruit and tangerine with a bit of brown sugar. Sharp carb counters the oily, thin syrup, mouthfeel. Taste is orange juice concentrate, spruce, juniper and caramel. Lingering bitterness. A little rough and heavy.

A nose of buttercups. Amber coppery light colour. Sweetnes and lots of nice hops. Orange and grapefruit aromas. Some barleywine properties. Alcolhol 9.9%.
